My kitten is having a baby.

In my hope of hopes I never thought that I’d get the chance to be a father. Not that I really had any experience with what a good father should be like. I never had one, and yet I couldn’t wait to try my hand at it.

Dell was right to ask the question of if she even wanted to have a baby. I should have thought of that. There was just too much excitement rolling through me at the thought of a tiny piece of my kitten running around in the world. Even if it means sharing her love with other men, I’m more than happy to do it to make her happy.

However if they hurt her I’ll also be more than willing to correct them if need be. No one hurts my kitten and gets away with it. Not even Bellamy who I had kind of taken a shine to in our short time together. His fear of my kind is very alluring in a sick kind of way. It gives the blood a very different scent and flavor, but I’d never take from a person in fear. At least not anymore.

There was a time when I would relish chasing down my meals and devouring them at the height of their fear, but I’m not that vampire anymore. Jade changed a lot for me. Of course it was her beauty that drew me in first but it was her heart that had me changing for the better.

“You’re going to be okay,” I tell her as she grips my hand tightly in hers on the car ride to the pack house. Dell and Alec were already waiting there for us. As they were leaving last night Dell promised to be there for Jade in case things didn’t go smoothly with the Alpha and his Betas.

“I hurt them, I thought I was doing what was best but I still hurt them Dar,” she says, glancing down at her stomach which is now showing even more than yesterday.

“You have a good heart Jade, if they can’t see that then they don’t deserve you,” I tell her firmly and I would sure as hell tell the wolves the same thing. There’s no need for them to make her feel worse than she already does, especially when carrying our child. There’s no telling what I might do if they upset her too much.

“Thank you Dar, for being so understanding,” she comments, leaning over and giving me a sweet kiss on the cheek before laying her head on my shoulder.

Vikrim is once again driving a car that he stole though he was reluctant to leave Ruby and the girls on their own. My friend is growing rather attached to that little family and I’m not sure if that is a good or bad thing. He’s a good man, better than me even but after his mate died I don't know if he can truly love another. Ruby seems to be in the same boat, I’m not sure they’d make a good match. But what do I know, the only woman I’ve ever loved is now having another man’s child. Mostly, the reason I wanted him to come along today is in case things get out of hand and I need someone to hold me back if they upset my kitten.

This is going to be hard enough on her without them making her feel worse. It’s not something I’ll handle well. Luckily, we left Mila back at the apartment to hold down the fort. I do find her amusing most of the time, but I don’t think her brand of humor would be very helpful at this time. Her short history with the wolves and her quick wit might have been distracting in this serious situation.

“Do not worry, gatito! Everything va estar bien, just you wait. Anyone who is mad over a little bebe, is not a person you want in your life,” Vikrim tells her putting his two cents in. Glancing down at her I see a small smile on her face and that is the only reason I’m not yelling at my friend for using my nickname for Jade even though it’s in Spanish.

“Gracias Vikrim,” she says, repeating the phrase I taught her this morning. She’s so kind that she wanted to know a few small words of Vikrim’s native tongue to make him feel comfortable. My kitten never ceases to amaze me.

“Muy bien! Jade!” Vikrim praises her and my arm instinctively wraps around her pulling her close. I’m not jealous, I know that kitten loves me and she already has three other mates, but as Mila would say; she attracts ‘big dick energy’ and I think three wolves is enough.

“Oh!” Jade comments and I’m immediately on high alert.

“What’s wrong?”

“Nothing I’m just pretty sure I felt the baby kick, which I’m not an expert on but I’m pretty sure it’s too soon for that,” she explains and her fear spikes down our bond.

“Everything will be fine, kitten, your pregnancy may be sped up by magic but I’m sure the cub is still healthy. They wouldn’t go to all this effort to make a sick baby,” I say and as soon as the last words leave my lips and I see the look in her eyes I know that my words weren’t as helpful as they sounded in my head.

The car goes silent as she stares down at her stomach which you can’t really see under the bulky sweatshirt she wanted to wear. Jade wanted to talk things over with the wolves before making the big announcement that we’re going to be parents and quicker than any of us would have dreamed.
