“He’s not doing well, I’ll stay with him,” Bell whispers, but I close my eyes and pretend I don’t hear them.
“I can delay for one more day but after that…” Jace says concern filling his voice.
“I know, but I’m not sure what else to do but give him time and make sure he doesn’t hurt himself, again,” Bell comments before I hear the bedroom door open.
“I’ll cancel the meeting and then I have a plan, I’ll let you know how it turns out,” Jace informs Bell, before the door closes again.
“Please let his plan work,” Bellamy pleads quietly just as sleep takes me once more. I find myself hoping that the plan works too because if it doesn’t I’m not sure I’ll survive without Jade.
Chapter Four
JADE
A knock on our door has both Dar and I on high alert even as Mila happily answers it. Laying in bed I’m not sure that I’m even ready for any kind of company but it doesn't seem like I have much choice.
“Whoever it is kitten I’ll send them away, don’t worry,” he says, giving me a quick kiss on the forehead before speeding out of our bedroom. He’s in such a hurry to see who’s here that he leaves the door open just a crack.
“Hey traitor,” a male voice that I don’t recognize says I assume to Mila as a way of greeting.
“Hey J, I see you still have that stick up your ass,” she says and instead of getting upset the guy just chuckles.
“How are you doing pup?” he asks but Mila doesn’t give a reply so I assume she just shrugged.
“Hello again Jace, I don’t mean to be rude but what brings you to our home?” Dar asks, his tone polite and friendly as if he’s familiar with this other wolf. Or I at least assume it’s a wolf as they’re the only ones I know that have no problem calling people younger than them pup.
“Well someone really wanted to see Jade and Mila, and honestly Silas isn’t doing so good,” he explains, and my heart hurts when he says his name.
Darius was very understanding last night, in fact he didn’t even get upset at me even once when I told him what happened. I don’t think I deserved to be forgiven so easily but I would take it in a heartbeat if it means I get to keep my vamp.
“Hey Scarlett!” Mila says excitedly, and my heart beats faster in my chest. Seeing that little girl is the only thing that could get me out of this bed. Whoever is here must be some kind of master mind.
The man that I spot when I step out of the bedroom doesn’t look anything like I thought. He’s extremely handsome with blond hair and bright blue eyes, but his face is blank when he looks at me as if he’s afraid a single facial expression might scare me off. After everything that happened with Silas and Bellamy he probably isn’t too far off.
“Ah Jace this is my kitten Jade, Jade this is Jace he’s a Beta in Silas’s pack,” Darius says introducing us. Jace holds out his hand politely, but I look at it skeptically instead of taking it.
“I can understand your reluctance but it’s very unlikely that I’m also your mate,” Jace explains with a chuckle in his tone. Though his face and body are far more tense. Not wanting to be rude I take his hand in mine and give it a good shake. I feel a small zap of energy from him but he doesn’t react so I drop his hand and move over to where Scarlett and Mila are sitting on the couch signing back and forth.
“Hey you,” I say, picking her up and placing her on my lap so that I can hug on her while she talks to Mila.
“She’s telling me all about how Jace made her dino nuggets from Silas’ secret stash and how Sam had a sleepover with her last night where they watched movies and had ice cream,” Mila tells me and I can’t help but be relieved that she’s being well taken care of at the pack house. I felt terrible leaving her with a bunch of strangers but my life is no place for a kid right now.
“Who’s Sam?” I ask Mila but it’s Jace that answers coming over to sit in one of the club chairs in the living room.
“He was our Omega before he was abused by one of the Black Coven. Now he lives in Sunset Peak with his mate, a very handsome but very dangerous witch. Sam is very sweet so I thought that was the best option for her with everything going on, plus as soon as he saw her he took a shine to her,” he tells me and I couldn’t agree more, Scarlett had been abused by her family for years so calm and sweet is exactly what she needs.
“What do you mean dangerous witch?” I ask, not liking that part one bit.
“Oh Alec used to work for AA with Delphina actually, or I guess they still do occasionally. I’m not really sure I got the whole complicated story down but I do know they took down the corrupt guy that used to be the leader,” he says with a shrug, as if he hadn’t just dropped a huge bomb on me.
My Delly an assassin? And a badass one at that.
It doesn’t matter though I still can’t see her, assassin or not the guy that tortured me for the last ten years is the most terrifying person I ever met.
“We have to move,” I tell Darius, my body trembling as I hold on to Scarlett.
“What do you mean kitten? You love it here,” he asks, with a look of confusion coming over his face.
“My past has caught up to me, which means I need to leave, and soon,” I explain vaguely, not wanting to get into it now with all these people around. I’d been holding off on telling him the whole story but it seems as if my choice to keep that information to myself has been taken away.
