“We might as well start at the beginning,” Franny comments before taking a big breath and letting it out slowly as if she needs to center herself for what she has to say. That worries me a little bit.

“When I was young I was kidnapped by the Black Coven,” she announces and her mates turn to look at her like it’s a surprise to them too.

“Franny, why didn’t you say something? I would have never asked you to get involved if I knew your history with them,” Tanner tells her, sounding scared for his mate.

“It’s not something that I’ve told anyone, only my father knew because he was the one that rescued me,” she responds with a sigh.

“It’s okay Franny we still love you, right Tanner?” Ivan comments running a hand along Franny’s leg.

“Of course we still love you, I’m just less sure this is a good idea now,” he grumbles.

Funnily enough seeing their dynamic and the fact that they aren’t perfect as a group actually makes me feel better about our little messed up group.

“Anyway, I was held captive on their farm for only a couple months I think and that was more than enough for me. They branded me on the bottom of my foot with magic so the mark never goes away but I hide it with magic even from you guys,” she says and all of her men growl, even the human one. In fact if anything he is the most angry hearing about the mark.

“What the fuck?”

“Perhaps I should have had this little chat with them before we came so I wouldn’t keep getting interrupted, but I didn’t want the fight about coming to help,” she says glaring at her men, specifically Tanner who is swearing a blue streak under his breath.

“I’m sorry, please go on,” he apologizes but his tone is filled with sarcasm.

“I’ll deal with you later,” she comments, and I get the distinct impression that man is in big trouble.

“Can I ask why they kidnapped you? It can’t be for the same reason they took us since you were only a child,” I say hoping that my assumption is correct, or I might have nightmares after this.

“What I’m about to tell you could put my life in danger so it must never leave this room,” she insists and we all nod our heads in agreement.

“They wanted me because I’m a Mage,” she tells us and I’m not sure I understand why that is a big deal but Darius’ intake of breath tells me it must mean something.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve come across a Mage, such a rare creature you are my dear,” he comments, and I still don’t get it I guess. Glancing over at Dar he must read it on my face because he quickly explains.

“Mage’s are very powerful in magic, and they’re rare because covens of witches over the years have captured them and used them like magical batteries. A way to amplify their spells and become more powerful. The problem is that even though Mage’s are powerful, greedy witches tend to use them until they’re drained to death. It’s like Healers, you rarely see them because they were used to extinction as well. I am honored to meet you my dear and I will take your secret to the grave,” he vows to her while the rest of us sit there stunned.

“Your baby?” I say wondering if it will have to hide just like she does.

“We are actually having twins and as far as I can tell they will be snow owl shifters like Ivan,” she says thoughtfully. “Mage’s don’t mix with others like witches and other supes, the only way for me to get a Mage baby would be if Tanner is the bio daddy.”

“While Mage reproduction is all very interesting, what does this have to do with Jade and our baby?” Jace asks, trying to keep his tone calm but I can tell even without the bond that he’s getting anxious.

“Don’t be rude,” Bellamy chides him.

“He’s fine, I have to deal with Tanner everyday, Jace was positively polite compared to this one sometimes,” Franny teases, patting Tanner’s jean clad leg. The man in question though doesn’t seem to find any of this funny.

“Back to the reason I brought up being a Mage. When I put a little magic through you when I first arrived, I could feel the spell that they used. It shouldn’t cause any harm to your baby, just speed up the development. The reason I was shocked is because I felt another Mage’s magic in the spell,” she explains.

“Meaning—”

“Meaning my dear Alpha that the Black Coven has their own Mage magic battery and they’re going to be even harder to take down.”

“Fuck.”

Chapter Sixteen

JACE

After Franny dropped that little truth bomb things went down hill from there. I’m really not big on a group of people getting so emotionally charged. I took a step back and just observed. Franny and her guys were arguing about going home, well except for the big ass monster Renzo who just kept saying he loves Franny.

I think it's good for Jade to see an established group fighting but still very much in love so that she can witness how a family works. Silas told us she grew up in an orphanage and though our families might not have been the best, at least we had them for a time. Family has its ups and downs but if it’s a good family they love you even through the hard times.
