Alex finished her sandwich, then after cleaning up the kitchen, she went back into the living room and curled up on the couch with her Bible, Krypto lying next to her. She read until she began nodding off.
Suddenly, she was inside a large house. Some of the rooms were clean and beautiful, but the doors to other rooms were shut. Somehow she knew something dark was behind those doors. Something she didn’t want to see. She looked for a way to exit the house, but she couldn’t find one. Instead, she found herself trying to squeeze through small tunnels that led nowhere. How would she ever find her way out? She was so afraid she was going to get stuck in one of them that she cried out to God. She finally made her way into a larger hallway and found a Man clothed in white standing there, watching her. He extended His hand, and she took it.
“I’ll help you find your way,” He said.
He led her toward a glowing light Alex knew would lead to freedom. But then He stopped and looked at her. It was strange, because she couldn’t see His face, only His eyes. His gaze made her feel warm. Loved.
“Logan needs you, Alex. Help him in his journey the way I’m helping you now.”
A moment later she found herself standing outside in a beautiful field full of purple flowers, Krypto sitting beside her. She looked down at him, and he stared at her, his tail wagging and his mouth open in a doggy smile. He looked so happy. She knelt and put her arms around his neck. Somehow she knew that when the day came she had to say good-bye to him, their separation wouldn’t be forever. Someday they’d sit together in a field just like this one where there would no more good-byes.
She was aware that Jesus had been the Man comforting her, and she was overcome by His love for her.
When Alex woke, tears were streaming down her face. And yet she was smiling.
