“I’ll let you go,” Jeff said. “I want to keep the line open for her call.”
“Okay. And thanks, Jeff.”
“You bet.”
He’d just hung up when a nurse opened the door and stepped inside. Logan was glad to see it was Donna.
“Before you say anything,” Monty told her, “I know it’s late, but we’re waiting on some very important information. One of our team—a woman my friend is in love with—is close to being rescued from a dangerous situation. I’m staying with him until we know she’s safe.” He put his hands on his hips as if challenging her. Logan liked Donna and didn’t want to offend her, but neither did he want Monty to leave.
Donna didn’t say a word. She just came over and checked his vitals. “Your blood pressure is a little high,” she said. “Try to calm down.”
Logan waited for her to speak to Monty, but when she was finished, she just smiled at Logan. “I’ll be back later. Glad I didn’t notice anyone in your room.”
As she walked toward the door, Monty said, “I know you can’t hear me, but I think you’re awesome. Just so you know.”
She closed the door behind her, and Logan said, “Thanks. If I had to wait for news by myself, I think I’d go crazy.”
“That’s what I figured.” Monty pulled a chair over and sat down. “Well, we can’t just sit here and stare at each other. What do you want to do?”
“I don’t know. If I turn on the TV, I won’t be able to concentrate on whatever we’re watching. I can’t think about anything except Alex.”
“Then I guess we’ll sit here and worry together.”
“First, let’s pray. Then instead of worrying, we can anticipate.”
“Is that a code word for worrying?”
Logan sighed. “I hope not. I know God loves her and that He’s with her. Why do we worry even when we know that?”
“I’m afraid that’s above my spiritual pay grade. But one thing I’ve learned? God knows how we really feel. And he understands the mountains we face. Faith isn’t a show we put on to impress Him. Faith may not lower our blood pressure or chase away all worry. But hope in God is a powerful thing. It’s the bridge to faith, and it puts those mountains on notice.”
Logan shook his head. “When did you get so smart?”
“Must be the company I keep.”
Logan smiled. “Okay. Let’s pray and walk across that bridge together.”
