I lifted my head. “Wait, you came from sentimental people?”
“Imagine that?” He kissed me gently.
I touched his face, cherishing the afterglow for another minute. This kiss was unhurried and sweet, making me so very glad of the dark since my stupid eyes wouldn’t stop stinging.
Suddenly, he got to his feet and tossed me over his shoulder again.
“You gotta stop this.”
He slapped my ass. “We need a shower. And then I’m starting over at the beginning.”
I went limp over his shoulder so I could reach his ass to give him an answering smack. “Your shower is glorious. I am a fan of this plan.”
My heart tumbled and broke right open at his laugh. I was so screwed. But maybe I wasn’t meant to guard my heart against him.
Maybe this was where I was supposed to be.
Clearly, his masterful control of my body included all the handheld sprayers in his posh shower. Steam and orgasms were a perfect balm to the long, stressful days we’d endured lately.
This time, when he lifted me into his arms wrapped in one of his plush towels, I was happy to snuggle into his chest. I decided romantic Ransom was a wonder and if I talked too much, maybe he’d disappear.
He rolled me into his bed and followed me, curling around me from the back.
“What about Midnight?”
“He’s used to sleeping outside.” He nuzzled my ear. “Sleep, Chaos.”
“It’s early,” I mumbled.
“Shh.”
“Ransom?”
He sighed. “Yeah?”
I nuzzled into the pillow and pulled his arm more securely around my waist. “I wasn’t expecting you.”
“Look at that. We can agree on something. Now shut off.”
I smiled into the darkness. “Yes, sir.”
He bit my shoulder lightly and I drifted into dreams with a laugh.
