He laughed softly. “Oh, you know, life’s never dull in the District.”
“It’s not; I miss it every once in a while. The metro, the marina, the food—especially the cupcakes.”
He laughed louder. “I’ll send you cupcakes.”
“Ah, thanks, Becks,” she said with over-emphasized sweetness. Then she modulated her tone back. “And thank you for answering.”
“You know I’ll always answer, babe,” he assured her.
“I know it, but I wouldn’t blame you if one day you didn’t.”
“Never going to happen.”
