The spoon paused at his lips. “Kill—” He turned his head toward the window.“Shit.”

“What?” she asked.

“You’re naked, and I fucked you in front of an open window.”

Elliott followed his line of sight. “He can’t see inside. We’re too high up.”

His hold tightened. He shifted his body, moving to block her from the window. She interpreted it as both protective and possessive, and it made every girlie part of her quiver. Although she was a badass who could take him down in a fight, it was wildly tantalizing. Jonah wasn’t a slouch, but she could knock him out solid if she needed to. That it was his instinct to shield her, regardless, instead of it being insulting, it was… a relief.

And heartbreaking. Because she had to keep reminding herself that this was temporary.

Setting aside the spoon, Jonah re-covered the dish one-handed. “I’ll take this over while you shower.”

“Shower?”

“The morning will come early. Very, very early. You’re going to hate me as it is. Shower now and get it out of the way.”

Elliott looked up at him innocently. “I’ll be fine.”

With a teasing grin, he shook his head. “I want to make a bet with you on that.” He leaned forward and kissed her quickly. “Shower.”

“I’ll tarry so you can catch up with me.”

That earned her a slower, deeper, heart-and-libido-stirring kiss.

Yeah, she had a feeling an early night wasn’t in the cards for them.
