"Shayla—" Cole stands and steps closer to me, and I back away, shaking my head.
"—I don't want to see you anymore, Cole," I tell him coldly, keeping the emotion out of my voice hoping he finally understands that I'm serious. We stare at one another, and he shakes his head.
"You're a shitty liar." He states, taking a step toward me.
"I mean it."
"No, you don't." He replies, taking another step.
"Yes, I do," I whisper craning my neck to look up at him as he towers over me.
"Then why wait till tomorrow. I'll walk out of your life right now then, shall I?" He suggests, and I keep my eyes on his and shrug.
"Do whatever makes you happy."
Cole nods, licking his lips, "Fine."
"Fine." I gasp when Cole grabs my face with one hand and pulls me to him, fusing our lips. I moan when his tongue glides over mine, deepening the kiss. It took a couple of minutes before my hazy mind realised what was happening, and I pull away breathless and look at him. "What the hell did you do that for?" I breathe, and he looks at me and shrugs.
"You said, do whatever makes you happy. That makes me happy." He justifies, and I gape at him before I shove him away from me.
"That's not what I meant Cole. You have a girlfriend now. You can't kiss me whenever you feel like it." I scold him shaking my head, and Cole sits back down on the bed.
"She kissed me when we were married, think of this as payback." I roll my eyes and glare at him.
"Payback? Do you think this is a bloody game? I'm not Sophie. I don't make a habit of kissing other girl's boyfriends."
"But you did." He tells me matter-of-factly, "You kissed me back, and don't you even try and deny it. I heard you moan."
"Oh my God, this is exactly what I meant by us not being able to be around each other, Cole." I groan, leaning back against the door. "You have to go."
Cole looks at me sadly and shakes his head. "No, you said tomorrow. I'm not walking away a minute sooner." I close my eyes and heave a sigh. This boy is going to drive me insane. I swear to God. "Shayla, come here." I shake my head, and he gets up, lifts me off the floor, and tosses me on the bed. He kicks his shoes off and gets on the bed with me. "I'm sorry I kissed you, that was way out of line, and you're right, you're nothing like Sophie. You would never do anything like that."
"No, I wouldn't, because I wouldn't want it done to me," I tell him, and he nods, biting his bottom lip looking remorseful.
"I know, I'm clearly not thinking straight. I'm sorry." He whispers, brushing my hair out of my face as we lay on my bed facing one another.
I sigh, licking my lips, "It's fine. It's done now."
"Will you do something for me?" He asks while his thumb massages my wrist. I nod, and his eyes search my face for a long moment before he speaks. "Will you read to me?"
I look at him, surprised but nod. "Sure, what would you like me to read to you?"
Tears gather in Cole's eyes, and he swallows hard, "The book you were reading Grandpop. Will you finish it off with me?" I nod and sit up. I reach over and pick up the book off my nightstand before opening it to where I left the bookmark. Cole lays his head in my lap, and I inhale deeply before I start reading to him, my fingers brushing through his hair as I read the remaining story of Tristan and Isolde.
"And Tristan answered, thank you, friend; this is my prayer: take this ring, it is a sign between her and me; and when you come to her land pass yourself at court for a merchant, and show her silk and stuffs, but make so that she sees the ring, for then she will find some ruse by which to speak to you in secret…."
