“Bite me.”

“Oh? Is that an invitation?” He questions, grinning handsomely, tossing it back at me again.

“Only in your dreams, darling.” I throw the balled-up paper at his head and turn to leave his office.

“Only every night, baby.” He retorts teasingly, throwing the paper and watches with glee as it hits my bum and falls on the floor. “Right on target.” He smirks, winking at me while leaning back in his chair as I glare at him.

“Good night, Cole.” I bite out before I turn and walk out of his office. I sigh tiredly as I stroll toward the elevator. It’s been the longest day ever, and I couldn’t wait to get home and get into my pj’s and fall asleep to a good movie. I frown when I hear the clicking of heels on the tiled floor approaching me, I look up from my phone and resist the urge to roll my eyes when I see Sophie walking toward me.

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the little ex-wife. Why am I not surprised to see you here so late?” She greets snidely, raising her perfectly shaped brow at me, and I lick my lips, pushing the button to the elevator repeatedly. Give me a fucking break.

“Could it be because I actually work here, unlike yourself?” I retort back sardonically, staring at the numbers at the top of the elevator to avoid looking at the bitch.

Sophie chuckles, tossing her bleach blonde hair over her shoulder as she lets her icy blue eyes rake over me. “I’m the boss's soon-to-be wife; it would do you a world of good to get yourself used to the idea of seeing me around here more often.” I ignore the pull at my heart and look at her with a sugary smile.

“Why is that? Are you planning on working here? Because the last time I checked, we design buildings here, sweetie, not clothes?” I tell her with a smirk, and she glares at me.

“You just can’t help yourself, can you? Just when I let myself believe you’re finally gone for good, you pop back up like a bad rash.” She retorts stonily. “Don’t think for one second that I don’t know why you agreed to come back here, Shayla. You’re wasting your time if you think you can worm your way back with Tristan.” She scoffs, “Then again, I shouldn’t be so surprised. What else did I expect from a girl who lacks any form of self-respect? After all, he did leave you to be with me.” She says, crossing her arms over her chest, and I smile.

“Pardon? First of all, Cole didn’t leave me for you. The decision to divorce was agreed upon mutually for reasons that, A… had nothing to do with you, and B… is and never will be any of your damn business. Secondly, where was this self-respect of yours when you were in here kissing my husband while you were engaged to another guy? Oh, that’s right, non-existent, that’s where.” I respond cuttingly and watch in delight while her face goes all red with humiliation. “You clearly have issues in your relationship if you’re coming by your fiancé’s office to check up on him at this time of night. I don’t know what you were expecting to find, sweetie, but going around deliberately kissing other girl’s husbands is more your forte, not mine.” I add with a wink and turn to walk into the elevator but stop and look at her again.

“And hey, at least whenever I kissed Cole or when we made love, I never, not once, had to worry if he was thinking about you because those beautiful green eyes were always on mine until the very last second. The next time he has sex with you, if those eyes are looking into yours, you have nothing to worry about, but if they’re closed…well, I’ll let you think about that one. Ciao.” I drawl, waving at her as the elevator door closes.

I exhale deeply, closing my eyes. I hate that woman with every fibre in my body.
