“See.” I roll my eyes, and Aimee sniggers a little as we walk to the living room carefully. Great time to cut the electricity when we were watching a horror movie.
“Is there a power cut?” I hear Josh as he gets up to his feet.
“What the fuck is going on!” Jo shouts, crashing into the coffee table. “Ow, shit!”
“Jo, calm down. The mains must have blown again,” Aimee tells her with a sigh.
“Again? What do you mean again? It’s never bloody blown!” She retorts, the fear apparent in her voice. I smile, shaking my head. She’s such a sissy.
“If you show me where the mains are, I can take a look for you?” Josh offers, and I sigh, shaking my head as if he can even see me.
“Oh no, it’s okay. We’ll just get the maintenance guy to have a look at it in the morning. It’s getting late now anyway. We should probably get to bed. We all have work in the morning.” I say, faking a yawn.
“Oh, well okay then. I best get going.”
“Why don’t I give you a lift home?” Aimee offers, leaning over to pick up her shoes.
“Oh no, that’s okay. I can catch an uber it’s no problem.”
“Don’t be silly. We offered you a lift home. It’s not like you live far. Let’s go.” She chirps, snatching up my keys off the table by the door. Aimee opens the door, and the light from the corridor shines into the apartment. I smile at Josh when he looks over at me, and he grins back handsomely. I walk him to the door, and he lingers for a minute, looking at me.
“So, I’ll see you at the office tomorrow, and we can discuss the details of our date?” I nod and tuck a loose strand of my hair behind my ear.
“Sounds good.” I smile, and he nods, winking at me before he and Aimee leave the apartment. I close the door and sigh in relief.
“Shayla?!” I jump, startled at Jo’s sudden outburst. “You want to explain what the fuck is going on?” I roll my eyes and walk to the electricity mains and shine my phone's flashlight on it so I could turn it back on again. I flick the switch, and the lights in the apartment come on, and I hear Jo sigh in relief.
“There, now calm down, you little chicken.” I tease her, and she glares at me, not so amused.
“I thought it blew?”
I smile sheepishly, “Yeah, no, we flipped the switch so we could get Josh out of here.” I tell her, and Jo looks at me just as Aimee had. “I mentioned to Cole that Josh was over, and he flipped out on me and is currently on his way over.” I explain, and Jo’s brows go up, her mouth forms into an ‘o’
* * *
A couple of minutes later,we both jump when a loud knock sounds on the door. “You might want to go to your room because there’s about to be an argument. A big one.” I warn her, and she nods and hurries to her room as I walk to the door and open it to a livid Cole. A shiver passes through me at the anger in his eyes while he stares at me.
“Where is he?” He growls, looking around while he steps in through the front door, and I move in front of him, placing my hands on his chest. Cole’s angry green eyes meet mine, and we glare at one another.
“He left, Cole,” I tell him angrily and push him back. “You can go too.” Cole shakes his head and retakes a step toward me. I crane my neck to look up at him as he towers over me.
“What the hell was he doing here in the first place?” He demands, narrowing his eyes at me. I bite my bottom lip as I look up into his eyes.
“We were fucking,” I whisper to him, and Cole’s eyes go dark, his jaw clenches tight. “Would you like a play by play?” I add tauntingly, and he bites his bottom lip hard as he glowers at me fiercely.
“You better be fucking joking because if he’s laid a finger on you, I will destroy him.” He growls, and I smile at him spitefully.
“You don’t get to decide who touches me,” I tell him coldly, and Cole licks his lips and kicks the door shut with his foot before his hand curls at my throat, and he presses me firmly against the wall.
“Wanna bet.” He burs darkly, pressing his forehead to mine. I swallow the gasp about to escape me and keep my eyes on him. My heart was thrashing around in my chest. “Did you not hear me earlier. You’re mine.” He states possessively, his thumb trailing along my jaw.
“Did you not hear me. I was never yours.” I retort snidely, and Cole tilts my head up till our mouths were aligned.
“Is that right? Is that why you would whisper the words ‘make me yours’ before I made love to you all those times.” He tells me, and I gulp, closing my eyes when his fingers brush down my throat. “I made you mine, countless times, again and again.”
“Those were simply words uttered in moments of passion Cole. Empty promises we made to one another while we fucked. That’s it.” Cole’s eyes blacken, and his gaze goes hard on mine.
“Honey, I don’t make empty promises— especially to you and most definitely not when my cock is buried inside of you. Our sex was never just sex Shay, and you fucking know that, so don’t waste your breath trying to convince yourself otherwise. All those whispered words meant something to us both.” He drawls huskily, and I stare up at him.
