After a couple more rounds,Aimee and Jo invited Josh over to our place, much to my dismay. I just wanted to shower and curl up in bed with a book, but no, they decided they wanted to watch a movie. I was lying on the sofa trying hard not to doze off, Josh sitting on the floor in front of me, his head resting half on the cushion and half on my chest as we watch the movie. I frown when I feel my phone vibrate and see a message from Cole. My heart instantly starts racing, and I open the message and read it.

Cole:

‘Did you get home okay?’

Me:

‘Yes, Cole, I’m a big girl. I can take care of myself.’

Cole:

‘I know you can, but I still worry. What are you up to?’

Me:

‘Watching a movie with the girls and Josh.’

While I wait for his reply, my phone starts ringing with his name on the screen. I excuse myself and walk to my bedroom to answer the phone. “Why are you calling me at this time?” I whisper as I close my bedroom door.

“Why is Josh at yours?!” Cole barks and I close my eyes, sighing.

“I told you we’re watching a movie. What’s it got to do with you anyway?” I ask hotly, trying to keep my voice down, and I can hear Cole pacing on his end.

“Christ, Shayla, are you trying to make me crazy? Are you deliberately doing this to make me jealous to get a reaction out of me? because you’re fucking succeeding!” I scowl pacing my room.

“What the hell are you talking about, Cole. Why would I do such a thing?” I retort, and I hear him growl on the other end. “Shouldn’t you be in bed with your fiancée?”

“Shayla, don’t start that shit with me again. I already told you, I don’t sleep with her. Send him home.” He hisses through clenched teeth, and I shake my head.

“No.”

“Fine. I’m coming over. I’ll fucking do it.”

“No, you fucking aren’t.”

“Watch me.”

“Cole—” The line goes dead. Son of a bitch! I call him back, but he declines it, and it goes to voicemail. My entire body was shaking with infuriation. What the hell am I supposed to do now? I’ve never seen this side of Cole before, this possessive and jealous side. I pace my room like a lunatic, trying to find an excuse to get Josh out without being rude before Cole shows up and they kill each other.

I poke my head out of my bedroom and wave at Aimee till she sees me and frowns. I press my finger to my lips and motion her to me. She looks around and gets up off the floor, and walks over to me, confused. “What are you doing, you nut?”

“Shhh, you have to help me.” I pull her into my bedroom and close the door quietly. “We need to get rid of Josh,” I whisper, and Aimee frowns, watching me with her brows knitted together.

“Why?”

“Cole is on his way over,” I tell her, and Aimee blinks at me.

“Again...why?”

“I stupidly told him Josh was here, and he flipped out, and now he’s coming over. Aimee, I don’t want them to fight. Please help me get rid of him before Cole gets here.” I plead, and Aimee sighs, pinching the bridge of her nose.

“Jesus, Shayla. What possessed you to tell him? Of course he will hit the roof. I swear to God, I’m going to kill that Cole one of these days.” She mumbles agitatedly. Opening the door, she walks over to the electricity mains and opens it. Aimee smirks at me before she flicks the switch, and all the electricity in the apartment goes off, leaving us in absolute darkness.

“Oh, well done.” I praise her sardonically. “Now we can’t see fuck all, and Jo is going to shit herself,” I whisper to her furiously, and she shushes me.

“Ahhh!! What the hell?!” Jo hollers from the living room.
