I turn my gaze to Josh, who stares back at me. “Oh, God,” I whisper and felt my stomach lurch unpleasantly. I run off and lean over, throwing up everything I had consumed earlier. If he lays his hand on her, I will rip him limb from fucking limb. I feel a hand on my back and take the handkerchief Jo was holding out to me. I stand up straight and wipe my mouth.
“Don’t think the worst. When I saw him with her, he seemed to genuinely care about her. I don’t think he would hurt her or Alaia, Cole.” She tries to assure me, and I look at her.
“How could you possibly know that? If he’s twisted enough to kidnap her and my baby, what makes you think he wouldn’t try and...” I squeeze my eyes shut and choke on a sob. “I’m going to lose my mind, Jo. She must be fucking terrified. This is all my fault. I was supposed to protect them.” I cry, falling to my knees, and she hugs me.
“Cole, this isn’t your fault,” Jo states while rubbing my back, and I shake my head.
“It is my fault. If I never lost my memory and said all that shit to her and broke her heart, she wouldn’t have given that son of a bitch the time of day.” I sob, pulling away from her embrace.
“Cole, none of us could have ever seen this coming, babe. Shayla’s a strong girl. She’ll protect Alaia with her life, and she’s going to find a way back to you. I promise you.”
I tried to find comfort in her words, I did, but how strong can she be against a man that’s bigger and stronger than her. I can’t just sit around and let that son of a bitch hurt her. I won’t.
I get up and storm over to Josh. “Call your guys. I want to know about every single piece of real estate Blake has ever purchased. I’m going to get my girls back.”
