“I want to take you somewhere before we go home. Is that okay?” Cole questions, looking into my eyes, and I nod silently. I lay my head on his chest, and he wraps his arms around me, pressing his lips to my forehead. We stay like that, completely wrapped up comfortably in each other's embrace until the car rolls to a stop twenty minutes later.

Cole pullsme out of the car, and I peer up at the building in front of me, then I look at Cole, who was smiling up at it.
“Cole, why are we here?” I inquire, puzzled, and he sighs, licking his full lips before he turns his eyes to look at me.
“We’re revisiting old memories, remember?” He laces his fingers with mine and pulls me to his old apartment complex.
“Didn’t you sell this place?” I ask while we walk into the building toward the elevator. I was hit with so many memories, good and bad, as we step into the elevator together.
“I didn’t have the heart too. This place is very special to me; to us, I couldn’t bear the thought of anyone else living here.” Cole answers and turns to face me. “Every corner of the apartment has memories of you and me. I’ve been coming here quite a lot recently, and it’s been helping me remember things about us.” I smile, and he brushes my hair away from my face gently.
“That night we first met, my initial thought was to bring you here, but somehow we got derailed and ended up in Vegas.” He smiles cheekily and pulls me out of the elevator, and we walk down the corridor to our old apartment. “So, we’re doing it the right way this time.” He holds his hand out to me after he pushes the code to the door. “The way it would have been.” I slide my hand into his without hesitation, and Cole smiles and pulls me into the apartment.
My stomach was tying itself into knots, almost as if it’s the first time we’re sleeping together. That’s the beautiful thing about Cole, no matter how many times we kiss or make love, he knows just how to excite me—not only in a sexual way, but he ignites my soul and makes my heart soar. “We don’t have to do anything. I just wanted to be here...with you.”
I set my clutch on the table by the door and step closer to him. Cole watches me intently heedfully. “Is that what would have happened that night if we did come here? Nothing?” I inquire, and he smiles. I glance down at our entwined fingers caressing and look at him again.
“Dance with me,” Cole whispers and kisses my knuckles while I look at him, taken aback.
“There’s no music,” I look around the dark apartment, and he grins, taking my hand, he leads me to the living room. I watch as he walks over to the giant gas fireplace and turns it on.
The fire instantly illuminates the room. Cole disappears, and I slip my shoes off and sigh in relief. Damned things were killing my feet. I move closer to the fireplace and watch the flames. I smile when the music starts playing from the speakers in the house, and a moment later, I feel Cole's fingertips skim down my bare arms. He drops a kiss on my shoulder before he turns me to face him. Without my heels, I felt so small against him. Cole envelopes his arms around my waist, pulling me up against him.
I curl my fingers at the nape of his neck and rest the other on his chest as we slowly sway together to a cover of the classic, ‘I want to know what love is.’
I couldn’t help but wonder what might have happened had we ended up here instead of Vegas. Would we have eventually fallen in love again without the conflicts of our little ‘arrangement’? Either way, he would have still been my boss. Whether we got married or not, Cole was always destined to be in my life. “What are you thinking about?” Cole asks, pressing his forehead to mine.
I peek up at him and bite into my lip a little. “Just wondering what would have happened if we did end up here instead of Vegas.”
Cole smiles, “Huh...”
