“I’m not the only one. I know you were with Levi the past three days.”
Mira shakes her head and veers her gaze to look elsewhere. “Devin, I don’t have to explain myself to you, but Levi and I are just friends. Yes, we hung out together. That’s what friends do, don’t they?” She defends, and I scratch my jaw, straightening.
“Is that right? Do they sleep together, too?”
Mira combs her fingers through her hair in exasperation and exhales through her nose. “Since when have you been so invested with who I allow between my legs, Dev?”
“Answer the damn question!”
“Whether we did, or we didn’t, it’s none of your business. You’re not my vagina’s keeper. Do you see me questioning you about your sex life?” Mira asserts, getting up and walking around her desk. I walk around the other side and meet her in the middle of the office.
“How would you feel if you knew I was sleeping with Ayla?” Mira’s eyes narrow, and she shakes her head.
“I wouldn’t care.” I laugh bitterly and take a step toward her.
“You wouldn’t care that I was kissing her,” I say lowly, taking a step toward her when she retreats. “It wouldn’t bother you just a little bit that I was touching her, making her come and moan for me…” Mira shakes her head wordlessly, slowly backing up as I advance toward her. “It wouldn’t upset you at all if I had my tongue between her legs.” Mira gasps a little when she backs up against the wall.
“You remember how good that felt, don’t you, Mira.” I groan hoarsely, leaning close to her ear. “You remember how hard I made you come, don’t you? Teasing your clit with the tip of my tongue and sucking softly. I still remember how hard your body shook each time my tongue slid over your clit. That was me lacking experience.” I drawl gutturally, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Just imagine what I would do to you now,” I whisper in her ear, purposely brushing my lips over the shell of her ear as I speak.
My thoughts derailed somewhere along the way, and I missed the point I was trying to make. It’s hard to focus when I’m this close to her, and she’s breathing so rigorously. God give me strength. I’m about to fuck off all rationality and kiss the air right out of her lungs. Especially with the way she’s looking at me. I can’t take it. There’s an inferno burning in those eyes, and I want to burn in them as I drive myself deep inside her.
The intercom buzzes again, and I curse Molly when Mira slides away and rushes to the door with her tail between her legs. I watch her, unable to look at anything else. When she pulls the door open, she looks back at me very briefly before she walks out, leaving me alone in her office. I close my eyes and thump my head against the wall a couple of times with an audible groan.
The rest of the day, Mira avoided me like I was the damn plague. I saw her around the office twice. While I was conversing with one of our editors, I saw a bouquet of flowers—two dozen red roses—being delivered to her office. I watch her from a distance, through the glass. Mira takes the roses and reads the card as she walks to her desk. Her lips curl into a smile, and she shakes her head.
Levi is doing what Levi does best. However, he doesn’t realise that Mira isn’t like every other girl he’s used to wooing. He doesn’t know that Mira doesn’t like roses. Her favourite flowers are blue orchids. She favours sweets over chocolate any day…Haribo, to be precise. When it comes to having the upper hand, I’ll always win because I know Mira better than I know myself.
“Mark,” I call for my assistant, and he comes running over to me. “I need you to do something for me…” I place my hand on his shoulder as we walk and give him precise instructions on what I need him to do for me. “You got all of that, right?” Mark nods, a bewildered smile on his face. “And while you’re at it, why don’t you arrange something for Molly too.” He lifts his startled gaze to me, and I smirk knowingly.
“You know?”
I laugh. “Of course, I know. I can practically see your heart beating out of your chest whenever she’s around you.” I tease him, and he sighs.
“Damn, I was hoping to be more inconspicuous. Do you think she knows?” I shake my head and glance over at the girl in question, typing away at her computer, oblivious to everything around her.
“No, Buddy, she doesn’t have a clue. I wouldn’t wait though, seize the day, go get the girl before someone else does.”
“Is that what you’re doing? Seizing the day?” Mark questions. When I look at him questioningly, he smirks at me this time, and his eyes glide over to Mira’s office.
I give him a wry look, and he clears his throat. “Get out of here.” I shake my head, smiling when he scampers off.
A little over an hour later, Mark comes back and gives me a nod as he takes his seat at his desk. I watch a delivery boy bounce his way over to Molly’s desk with two baskets in his hand. One large one full of every one of Mira’s favourite flavour of Haribo. Star mix and gummy bears.
I couldn’t make out what was in the smaller one, but it looked like candles. I casually stroll out of the office to watch Mira’s reaction when she gets the basket. Molly walks into her office and sets the basket on her desk. Mira stands, leans over to see what’s in the basket. Even from a distance, I could see her eyes sparkle. The perplexed look on her face makes me chuckle to myself. She finds the card and reads it. Those plump lips curl into a slow, amused smile, and she shakes her head.
Satisfied with her reaction, I turn and stroll back into my office. I bury my head into reports for the rest of the afternoon. At ten to five, I get an email notification from Mira.

Are you trying to give me diabetes? There are far quicker ways of killing me off.
I laugh when I read her email and hit the reply button to email her back.
Devin King:
Kicking you down the stairs, perhaps? I contemplated that but figured I’d be the number one suspect. I’m not just looks. I have the smarts to boot. I’m far too pretty for prison.
