“Tinks, you okay?” I lift my head and look at Devin, watching curiously.
I force a smile on my face and nod. “Yeah, I’m fine. I’ve not had this much sex in a very long time. I think my body is going through some form of shock.” I joke, and Devin smiles.
“When was the last time you had sex? Before us, I mean?” Devin questions inquiringly. I know what he’s fishing for.
“Um, like eight or nine months ago. It was a random hook up, one of the worst sexual experiences I have ever had. It was more out of necessity than anything else.” I explain with a shrug, and Devin smiles broader.
“So, what did you get up to with Levi?”
I narrow my eyes at him a little in scrutiny. “You really want to have this conversation while you’re still hard and throbbing inside of me? You don’t find it a tad inappropriate?” Devin smirks, shaking his head.
“I don’t see a more appropriate time. Do you?”
I exhale, forcing aside the sudden awkwardness like a big fat elephant just sat on my chest. “We fooled around a lot.”
Devin’s brows draw together, and he licks his lips. “Fooled around? What the hell does that mean?”
I go to move off him, but he grips my waist and keeps me in place. Finally, I meet his penetrating gaze and sigh. “What do you think it means?”
Devin rolls his eyes, his jaw set tight and twitching. “Don’t be vague, Mira. Give it to me straight.”
“We kissed, did oral, he fingered me, and I gave him a hand job, we had phone sex. That’s it.” Devin scowls at me.
“So basically, everything but fuck.” He states bitterly, and I shrug. Devin turns to look out of the window, his grip on my hips tightening. “Are you going to keep seeing him?”
The high I was feeling before comes crashing down around when my heart drops. I can’t believe he’s asking me that, especially while he’s still inside of me. What the hell does he take me for? “I can’t believe you just asked me that,” I whisper, breaking out of his hold and scoot away to the other side of the car.
Devin looks over at me while he zips up his trousers. “It’s just a question, Mira.”
I shake my head and turn to look out of the window. “A question you should already know the answer to had you known me the way you so righteously claim to.” I utter sourly. Devin reaches out to touch me, but I bat his hand away. My eyes burn, and I can feel the tears brimming, but I refuse to cry. “Don’t touch me, Devin.”
“Mira, please, come here.” I ignore him. A heavy sigh, a couple of incoherent words, and he shuffles over to me and kisses my shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to upset you. I just pictured you with him, and it pissed me off.”
“What the hell do you take me for? I’m going to screw you and go jump into bed with him?” I express unable to mask the hurt laced in my tone and turn to look at him. “Is that really what you think of me?”
Devin shakes his head, “Of course not, babe.” He affirms, sweeping my hair away so he can kiss along my shoulder. “I’m not blind nor stupid. I saw the way he is around you, and I saw the way you looked at him. You can say you’re just friends all you want, but I know there’s something there. I also know my brother, and I’ve never seen him look at any girl the way he does you. He looks at you the way I look at you.”
I sigh and close my eyes before I turn and look at him. “Devin, I already told you, Levi was always there. We’ve always kept in touch over the years, so naturally, we’ve grown closer. He popped up in my life at a time when I needed someone.”
Devin pulls his head back and regards me seriously, his eyes searching mine. “What does that mean?”
“There's so much you don’t know, things that happened with my last ex. I was going through some stuff, and I needed an escape, so Wyatt, Lexi and I took a trip to Thailand last year.” Devin listens to me intently, waiting patiently for me to continue. “The second day on the island, I ran into Levi.” I see the realisation dawn upon his face and swallow thickly. “We were surprised to see each other, so we went out for drinks that night to catch up. We had one too many cocktails and one thing lead to another…”
“You slept together,” Devin utters heavily. I nod slowly, chewing on my lip.
“We decided it was going to be a one-night thing and forget about it.”
Devin chuckles. It wasn’t one of humour but pure annoyance. “Let me guess, Levi didn’t let up, did he? He wanted more.” The grimness and irritation laced in his voice caused the lump in my throat to grow tenfold. When I say nothing, Devin shakes his head, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“It was just a meaningless fling, a two-week holiday romance.” I justify. “That’s it.”
“It obviously wasn’t meaningless though, was it, Mira? Especially if you’ve picked up where you bloody left off.” Devin snaps back, letting out a string of curses under his breath.
“Devin, I don’t understand what you’re fuming about.”
Devin looks at me sharply. “You don’t understand what I’m fuming about? Are you fucking serious?” I look at him surprised and shrug.
“Yes, I’m serious. You’re acting as if I’ve cheated on you or something. This was over a year ago, and you weren’t even a part of my life, Devin. So, your annoyance, I’m sorry to point out, is not warranted.”
