“Yeah, I see that.” I gave my jaw a rub and cringed. Damn, she’d hit me good. So much for being a good Samaritan.
“I’m sorry about hitting you.”
“I’m sure there is a woman out there somewhere that cheered that on and would thank you.”
A grin spread across her glossy, red-painted lips. “They’re welcome.”
Sophia
I felt like such an asshole. His cheek was already starting to swell up and I could only imagine what his balls were feeling like right now. I’d kneed him with every bit of strength that I had in me. I hope this didn’t affect my grade….
At the last thought, I couldn’t help but giggle. That was such an inconsiderate and asshole thing to think when the poor man before me was in pain due to my paranoia. I’d been trained to sense being watched and take note of my surroundings and I’d been getting some eerie feelings that I just couldn’t shake lately. I didn’t think it was a coincidence, although I knew Zack wasn’t the one who’d been following me lately. I could call the family, but then what? Either they’d send my brother and his goons here to deal with it or force me to return to Italy. I was enjoying it too much here to risk Papa sending me home.
Chances are if there was someone following me then it was one of Papa’s men anyhow. I should have known better than to think he’d just let me live my life.
He gave me a stern look although there was a hint of a smile on his face. “My pain is amusing to you?”
I laughed fully this time. “No, I feel like a jerk, but a silly thought crossed my mind, that’s all.”
“Is that a fact, what was this thought that was so amusing? My nuts are throbbing, from trying to be a hero, so I feel I deserve a good chuckle.”
Groaning, I threw my hands up in the air in defeat. He had me there. “I was just wondering if this would affect my grade or not.”
His blue eyes stared down at me for a minute before replying. “You’re doing so well in the class I could give you zero on a test and you’d still pass with a good grade. I’m really impressed with your grades and participation in class. It’s nice to see a student take the class and her college career so seriously.”
I was grateful for the darkness surrounding us as heat colored my cheeks. “Thank you. I’ve been trying my best.”
“Do you even have time for yourself and fun or do you spend every second with the books?”
A gust of wind came up, hitting me square in the back and sending me stumbling forward. I yelped as I fell into his waiting arms. Grasping the front of his jacket, I steadied myself as a caught a whiff of his cologne. The scent immediately brought flashes of our night together to the forefront of my mind.
I didn’t step away as I looked up, the warmth of his body drawing me closer as the wind picked up a second time pummelling my back pushing me tighter against him.
“Are you okay?” he asked his arms holding tighter to my waist instead of releasing me.
My body pressed against his a little more as I slid up hands up his chest and to his shoulders. My gaze lowered from his eyes down to his lips. Oh, how sweet it had been when he’d explored my body with those lips. He seemed to know just what to do and how to do it to make my body sing in response.
His head lowered. His lips coming closer.
My body began to ache for his. Just as his lips were to touch mine there was the sound of drunken chatter coming from the distance. We jumped away from each other as if burned and the embarrassment I’d felt moments ago returned.
He cleared his throat running a hand through his hair as I attempted to slow my rapidly beating heart. What in the hell was about to happen? He was off-limits. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. His career would be ruined and if by some freak chance my family caught wind I had a thing with my professor… Well, it’s not something I cared to think about. They’d immediately think he was using his position to take advantage of me and that would be the end of that and potentially him.
“I think I should walk you back to the dorm and make sure you’re safe. There’s a lot of drunks out here if nothing worse.”
I nodded. “I’d appreciate that.”
We walked in silence. There were a few people here and there lingering about but for the most part the rest of the walk was quiet and uneventful. That only made things more awkward because my mind refused to think about anything other than the night we spent together. I’d worked so hard to rid my mind of those thoughts as I saw him every day in class, and I’d done well, yet here we were, one simple touch and my pussy came alive again.
This was such a shit situation.
Reaching the front door of my building, I felt a sense of disappointment wishing it had been his place I was standing in front of, or inside of. Better still naked in his bed as he ravaged me with his lips and hands.
Whoa, down girl…
“Thank you for walking me home,” I finally said.
“You’re welcome. I’m just glad you’re safe.”
The overhead light of the front door of the building shone brightly on his face, showing the swelling of his jaw and making me cringe. Poor guy, it must hurt like a bitch. By some miracle, his glasses had somehow stayed on his face despite the blow and didn’t seem any worse for the wear. “Would you like some ice for your jaw? It looks really swollen.”
“Thank you but I can do that when I get back to my place. I appreciate the offer.”
Taking a step towards him, I almost allowed myself to step into his embrace again, but quickly took a step back. The man was like a magnet drawing me in. “Are you sure?”
“It’s best we part now.” The look on his face, stern and unyielding told me to drop it, but his eyes told a different story. He was feeling that connection as well, the one we’d had the night I approached him at the bar. “We don’t need anyone thinking my star student and I…”
Looking down at the concrete walkway, I kicked at a small rock between our feet. “I know. Was just a thought.”
He nodded. “Goodnight Sophia.” He didn’t wait for me to respond, but simply turned and began to walk down the street. Despite him being forbidden I longed to see him turn back and face me. Just one last look like I’d seen countless times in romantic movies. But he didn’t. He continued down the road until he was nothing more than a speck in the night.
