A familiar small figure burst out of the house in pyjamas and bolted toward her. “Auntie Brit!”
The little body hit her, and Brit stumbled back. “Hey, little bit. Having a fun sleepover?”
Baola beamed. “I am. We went swimming and snorkelling, and I saw some fish. Khytten is huge, and Cira and Ciro are getting ready to walk.”
Lyric came out and grinned, holding a cup of coffee out. Brit walked quickly and claimed the coffee. Baola giggled.
“Come out back, Brit. The babies are getting up, and Khytten is out getting some breakfast and fresh air. She’s excited to see you but less mobile than she is normally.”
Brit came around the corner and saw Khytten sitting and looking tremendously uncomfortable. “Good morning, Khytten.”
Khytten shifted and opened her arms for a hug. “Hey, Brit.”
“Hey, Khytten. You are almost to term.”
Khytten grinned. “Yes. Baola and Lyric say that I am going to be seeing the first one by this evening. You look nice. Did you go to the wedding?”
Baola sighed. “Auntie Ylara called her for help, so she hurt herself and went to help. It worked. Auntie Ylara has met her alpha and is nervous but feeling happy.”
Salat came out carrying two mugs, and he handed one to Khytten. “Morning, Brit. Do I need to help with bodies today?”
“No. I was just needing a place to lie low until I can figure stuff out. And don’t mention it to anyone here, as I didn’t get here by standard means.”
He chuckled. “Got it. You are a talking shrub as far as I am concerned. If you need coffee, we keep it inside where Khytten can’t get to it. Fortunately, that just means six feet up now.”
“These babies are coming out, and then, I can have coffee again with Little Salat. That will be nice.”
Brit caressed the belly. Something was going to start soon.
“Yeah, they are plotting against you. Is your second nanny here?”
Salat nodded. His nose twitched. “Brit, do you have a boyfriend?”
She blushed. “Definitely not. I had to pay a debt, and when that was done, I took off.”
Salat smirked. “How did he react to that?”
“No clue. I was a hundred feet up and moving fast.”
“Really? No clue?”
“There might have been a hunting how. Might. Not really sure.”
Salat laughed. “One of Etgar’s friends?”
“Yeah. One of his polo buddies, I think.”
“Big, muzzle, pointy ears?”
She frowned. “Red eyes?”
Salat started snickering. Brit got nervous. “What’s with the giggles?”
The doc came in and touched Khytten’s belly before they exchanged a kiss. “If Salat is chortling, it is rarely good.”
Salat flicked through his com and asked, “Just to make this really funny, did he have this symbol on his person?”
The symbol of a shield with a scythe on it was projected to her com. She thought about it and the cufflinks on his wrists when he gripped her thighs. That symbol had been on the cufflinks.
