“Not them. Their dad. Him and his plus two are going to be Harp’s prestigious guests in a few weeks.”
“Interesting,” I say simply.
It’s more than interesting. It’s a downright contradiction of Viper’s personality. Even while he was married to Phae, he always did pride himself on the fact that he didn’t need to pay for a pretty woman to go to bed with him and doing whatever the fuck he wanted. And he still doesn’t have that issue even though he and his “girlfriend” are rapidly approaching an engagement if social media is to be believed.
There’s got to be a reason he’s going to that gentlemen’s club.
If it’s to question Harp too, then I could just leave this to rest and let Viper tell me what he finds out. And if it isn’t, I can just ask Viper to do it while he’s there and tell me. But also… could I trust Viper to tell me the truth? Because he was the one who decided it was best not to do anything when we found out Pray was trafficking children. That it would be in their best interests to see where this all ended. But I can’t trust that Viper won’t be okay with that ending. I can’t be sure he really plans to stop all this.
Viper could be a help here. But so long as I don’t know his intentions, I’m going to have to treat him as a liability.
“Interesting. That’s all you have to say? After you find out your baby daddy—”
I turn to go back into the house.
“I’ll get one of my people on it.”
“Make sure they’re good,” Delilah said. “It’s the only reason I brought this to you. The things I hear that happen in that club… I figured you’d be able to better find someone who can deal with powerful, depraved, violent men like that.”
“Oh, they will be,” I assure.
There’s no one who knows how to deal with powerful, depraved, and violent men better than me.
“Now get out of here before someone notices, and I have to kill them and you.”
Bella meets me coming into the house and says, “Bond said your sister was here?”
“Don’t worry. She’s still under control.”
Bella gives me the same skeptical look she gives me when I assure her I have Viper under control.
