SIMON
Traveling around the world, living out of hotels, year in and year out is nothing for us. Sure, we tire easily and enjoy the downtime between shows, but delivering our best to our fans is what’s important. Myka, on the other hand, has only had to be present at local shows and at best, travel across the states, not the pond, with her clients. This global trip has her tired out.
After she finished her bath, she put on a pair of sweats and an oversized t-shirt before curling up on the couch and taking a nap.
I don’t want her to think she’s sleeping there tonight, so I moved her things to the bedroom as she slept. I know I have a reputation with the ladies, but I am still a gentleman despite all of what most may think. While she slept, I did shower and grab a bit of a nap myself, but it’s hard sleeping with her nearby.
She stirs under my watchful gaze and opens her eyes to see me looking her over.
“Hello there sleeping beauty. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to wake you.”
She stretches and yawns, shaking off her midday slumber. “How long did I sleep? Oh no, did I miss dinner? Is it time for the interview? Where are my things?”
She’s firing off questions like an auctioneer, which I will happily respond to in the same style.
“A few hours. No, you didn’t. See my answer to the first question, and I moved them into the bedroom where you will be sleeping.”
“Where are you going to be?”
“With you, of course. Someone has to protect you from the monsters.” I laugh and she gives me a stare that says bugger off without her actually needing to speak.
“I’m kidding, love. I’ll take up space where you are, there on the couch.”
“Thank you, Simon but I’ll be fine here. I can’t have you uncomfortable. You have an interview tomorrow and you need to be well-rested.”
“That sofa does have one of those pull-out couches, so I will be fine. You just make sure you get plenty of rest. Can’t have my PR looking fatigued, even if the interview is on the radio. They may imply that you’re tired for a different reason outside of travel if you catch my drift.”
“Thanks. That’s kind of you.”
“Well, I am not the asshole most think I am.”
We pass sincere smiles and glances at each other and allow the silence to fall between us. No words spoken, but I sense something is there.
She clears her throat. “I guess I should get up and dress for dinner. We have reservations at seven.” Myka stands and walks to the bedroom to dress, and I finish my grooming in the bathroom. No need for her to walk out and catch me in my knickers.
I tend to stay nude while I brush my teeth and shave and get my face pretty for the world to see. My phone rings and I rush to grab it before it goes to voicemail and before she comes out of the room.
“Hello, Simon here.”
“Hey, brother. I just got off the phone with Mum and she wants us to be on time for dinner with the family. She won’t take no for an answer, so you need to get Ms. Johnson to agree.” Sebastian demands.
“You know how Myka is when it comes to a strict schedule. You can’t expect me to be able to change her mind.”
“Who would you rather have mad at you, Myka or Mum? I tell you what, I’d rather deal with a bollocking from our PR than a smack across the back of my head from our mother.”
He’s right. Our mum and the back of her hand were the only weapon we needed to keep us on the straight and narrow. Even when we started out as a band, our mother managed to get her point across with a well-placed hand meeting the back of our noggins.
“Okay. I’ll mention it, but I can’t promise anything.” I hurry and slip my drawers and pants on, so I am not caught naked. I sit to put on my socks and the door to the bedroom opens.
Myka steps out wearing a fitted dress that nearly matches her skin tone and accents her beautiful curves.
I forget I’m even on the phone with Sebastian until he starts speaking.
“Did you hear anything I said?” he asks.
“Yeah, talk to Myka. Got it. I’ll phone you back in a few.” I blindly disconnect and return my gaze to Myka who stands in the mirror in the bathroom and dabs on a little of her perfume.
She makes a fuss with her hair and seems to second guess her choice of attire the way she keeps changing the views of herself in the mirror.
