MYKA
Iwake to find Simon sound asleep when the plane touches down. I would be lying to myself if I didn’t say how peaceful and adorable he looks. Not romantic-attraction-adorable, but his-lips-aren’t-moving-and-the-world-is-breathing-a-sigh-of-relief adorable. I almost hate to rouse him. Who knows what will come out of his mouth.
“Simon. Simon.”
He doesn’t move when I call him.
“Simon, sweetie. The plane has landed. Time to get up and go get checked in at the hotel.”
His eyes open and they are bright, and he looks rested.
“Now, this is a wake-up call I’d never tire of.” He blows me a kiss.
And just like that, the world is back on alert. I shake my head and smile, just a little.
“Okay guys, listen up. I know this is your hometown and you are excited to see your family and friends. I, myself am looking forward to the peace and quiet for a few hours. With that said, please check-in and keep each other out of trouble. We have the interview at Planet Radio tomorrow morning then we head out to Miami where we will have an evening drive interview. Sebastian, you, and Mikey will need your guitars. They want an acoustic version of ‘Play’. They will drop the new single right after.”
“Uh, Myka. They are waiting for us to deplane. We can chat about this on the way to the hotel.”
I look up and see everyone has left except us. “Oh. I’m sorry. I was just thinking about the itinerary and how to manage it. But you’re right Sebastian, let’s go. I have the airport delivering our things to the hotel and car service waiting for us. We can grab our carry-ons and leave.”
The guys pull their bags from the overhead bin, and Simon is kind enough to carry mine as well. We exit the airport, and two Mercedes limousines await our arrival. I stuff the guys into one and take the other one by myself so I can make a few calls back to the states. They were understanding and didn’t think I was purposely shutting them out. First order of business, text Carter and let him know we arrived. Next business, call Amber.
“Hello?” she groggily answers.
“Oh, Amber. I’m sorry. The time zone difference is escaping me. Just wanted to let you know we landed. How did it go yesterday? Or is it today? I’m so confused.”
She giggles a bit. “It’s okay. I took the promotional items to their destination and Brianna, and I went to dinner. The design for the album release party is going to be amazeballs. If you don’t get at least laid that night, then the issue is you.”
“Is that what you and Brianna are planning? Me to get some random dick?”
“Well, duh. You broke up with that asshat and you need to exorcise all the demons, including those between your legs.” She breaks out in hysterics, and I can’t help but join her.
She’s partly right. I mean I don’t agree with the whole fucking-him-out-of-my-system, but I do need to rid myself of his memory. Maybe I’ll meet a stranger here in London for a nice meal and drink. I snap back to the present conversation and give her a few things to help with while I am traveling.
“By the way, what are the numbers on Daddy’s House?”
“I take it you didn’t check your email yet, but we sold out within the first hour of announcing. Pretty damn amazing if you ask me. In fact, they were talking about going to SRO with an extra one hundred if they can get approval from fire.”
“That’s sweet. Keep me in the loop on that. I guess that is all. I’ll chat with you later.”
“Okay. Go have fun. This is exciting.”
“Bye, Amber.” I disconnect the phone and scroll through my social media accounts. The ones for business and personal. The first thing I see is a picture with Cornelius and the headline reads Local Artist Signs Multi-Million Deal with Fox Records. My body stiffens and pain tightens in my chest. “That fucking asshole,” I mutter aloud. “He fucking played me all along. That fucking piece of shit!” I’m so blindsided by the news and my reaction, I hadn’t noticed we arrived Simon tapped on the window.
“Myka dear, are you going to sit in the car all day, come on love.” He grins.
I look back to the article that I absent-mindedly opened and then back to him. “Oh yeah. Sorry. I was caught up in looking at the latest news,” I mutter as he opens the door.
“No worries. We just don’t know the reservation information, and I know from first-hand experience; that the jet lag can settle in rather fast.”
I regroup mentally and zero in on the task at hand. “Didn’t mean to keep you guys waiting. I know I’m in need of a soak in a tub. I can only imagine you guys are ready to go see your family.”
Simon grabs my luggage, and we stroll leisurely into the hotel.
“Sebastian and I haven’t alerted our family to our arrival. It’s sort of a surprise. We know mum is going to be ecstatic.”
His eyes light up when speaking of his family, and I don’t know why I didn’t notice this before, but his eyes are green. Not in-your-face green, but the calm waters of the tropics somewhere. Almost brown. Maybe even hazel.
