“Splendid. How did you pull it all together so quickly?”
“What can I say, I’m good at what I do. Now, looking at the new style Simon is sporting, I think the entire band should get a make-over of sorts.”
“Uh, Myka, I have Andy and Mikey on the line for you,” Amber squeaks in over the intercom.
“Perfect timing. Go ahead and put them through.” I wait a few minutes before speaking. “Good morning, gentlemen.”
“Hey there Mikey.”
“How’s it hanging, love?”
“Um, nothing is hanging, thankfully. I’m glad you two could join. As I was saying to Sebastian and Simon—”
“Oh, wait. Simon is there with you? Well, thanks for the panic attack, mate.”
“Yeah, Simon. You could have at least sent a message or something, fucker.”
“Yes, gentlemen. He behaved irrationally and I will speak to him about that later, but for now, I need you two and Sebastian over to my hair team in an hour. They will revamp you just a little. You will still have your rocker’s edge, just toned down a smidge.”
“Isn’t Simon going too?”
“No, mates. I already had my day at the spa,” Simon chimes in.
“Yes. It was actually his new look that spawned the idea.”
“What ‘new look’?”
Simon takes out his cell phone, snaps a picture, and sends it to his friends.
“Whoa, dude, you actually cut your hair?”
“I’d say someone is looking for attention from another certain someone.”
They all laugh. All except the subject of the comment.
“Oh, cut it out now. We are in the middle of a meeting with our new PR lady,” Simon interjects. His gaze falls on me and I am entranced for a brief moment.
“Thank you, Mr. Ashton. As I was saying, you will need to be with the hair team in about an hour. I’ll have Amber send you the address after I get the owner to sign an NDA and shut the shop down. Then my friend Brianna will meet you back here in order to measure and dress you for tomorrow’s event. Speaking of, and to ensure there isn’t any tardiness, I will arrange for a car service to pick you up in the morning at your respective homes and take you to the location. Got it?” I glimpse at Simon and Sebastian for any concerns and listen intently for objections from the others.
“No, no problems here,” Mikey and Stix announce simultaneously.
My gaze darts between Sebastian and Simon, checking for any signs of uncertainty. I can talk about what I can do and put every ounce of effort into meeting the demands of the label that pays me, but at the end of the day, I still have to please the artists.
“What time do we have to be ready?” Sebastian asks.
I let out a small, unnoticeable sigh of relief knowing that if big brother says to do something, the little brother will follow. “Amber will share all the details by the time you get back from the hair team. Now, Mikey and Stix go ahead and get ready. I’ll have the address to you here in a few. See you later.” We disconnect and I go right into boss mode. “Amber,” I call over the intercom.
“Yes, boss?”
“Again, stop that. Call Harold and see if he can get my clients in like now. Tell him the NDA is in his email as we speak, and the shop will need to be closed to the public until my clients are back here with me. Also put in a lunch order at Julio’s for the usual meal.”
“Ooh, can I add margaritas?”
“Yes,” Simon answers.
“Uh, no. This is a working luncheon not a celebration. Where are we on the venue for tomorrow?”
“I’m waiting on responses, design is working on the flyers, and I will send the list of confirms from the journalists.”
