“Shit. Blair you can’t tell anyone. Please. I don’t want this being a big news story. Not yet. I’ve spent the last few days with Buckie.”
“I knew you two would get together. You know when you see people and you know they are made for each other? The chemistry between you two was off the charts when he was here the other day.”
“Hmm. Well Buckie and I had a kind of friends with benefits relationship before he went to the States and got all famous.”
Her eyes are wide and twinkling like this information is the best thing she’s ever heard. “Ooh Zara and the movie star. Hey, you might even get your mug in the papers when you go to the premiere.”
“No thanks. I’ll keep myself to myself for a while yet. I’ll be keeping a low profile. I don’t want to cause him any problems right now. This new movie is a huge deal for him. He said there was a budget of almost a hundred million dollars. Anyway, we aren’t here to discuss my love life. Let’s see your ideas for these classes.”
She smiles at me, zipping her fingers across her lips. “My lips are sealed sweetie. Okay here’s what I reckon we should do. We already run one class in the morning but only three days a week. We could easily up that to two classes and I’m thinking we do a beginner and an intermediate class. I’ve noticed over the last few weeks the people who’ve been here from the start have become very good. But when you add new people to the mix you have to go back and teach it all again. I feel as though those that are better at it could do with being challenged a little more. So, we could do the beginner class first thing in the morning and the intermediate mid-morning. The beginner class will take more work obviously. They’ll need extra teaching to help them getting to grips with the poles. That class will need at least two of us to be there. But the intermediates would only need a little guidance and that would only take one of us to teach.”
“Yeah, I see what you mean. That would free up space for a whole class in the first slot in the morning. I like it Blair, very well thought out.”
She stands and takes a bow. “See I’m not just a pretty face.”
“Look honey, I know you have a good business head. I don’t know why you’re so content working for me. You could easily do all this yourself.”
“You know that’s not my calling Zara. I know I could do it but I’m happy doing what I do. I dance because I love it, not for the money or the fame.”
“Okay point taken.”
“Oh, I’ve also had another idea, but it isn’t about this place.”
“Okay. I’m intrigued.”
“Well, your bartenders at Gemini make mean cocktails. I was thinking maybe you could run a cocktail making class there one night a week. You could sell it as a party package too. How much fun would it be to get all your gal pals together for a cocktail making party.”
I shake my head at her. “You’re bloody wasted here Blair. That’s a stellar idea. I love it.”
“Yay,” she squeals clapping her hands together. “This is great. I’ve put all my ideas in here for you to take away and look over. I know you’re away schmoozing with the rich and famous soon so we can meet up again when you get back.”
She hands me a clear folder with printed sheets inside. I can see she’s put in a lot of work on this. If she didn’t love what she does so much I’d have her as my number two.
“This is incredible. Tell me you know how much I appreciate you?”
“You know I do sweetheart. Now I’m going to head off. I have a waxing appointment later and I need to go and stock up on supplies, so I don’t need to go shopping after it. I can’t be seen walking round Tesco like John Wayne.”
She gathers up all her papers and pens and heads for the door.
“Okay so I’ll see you when I get back from London.”
“Say hi to Buckie for me.” She smiles and winks at me.
“Beat it you. And remember to keep your mouth zipped young lady.”
“Cross my heart. My lips are sealed. See you honey.”
I watch the door close behind her. Looking down at the folder she’s left with me I smile. It seems as though every single little piece of my life has fallen right into place in the last week. It’s about time I cut myself some slack and enjoyed my life. I’m excited to see Buckie’s movie and spend more time with him. I think this could be the point I’ve always wanted my life to be at.
