I grasp her chin gently. “We’ll figure this all out. Why don’t we get you home first and you can…uhm…” I look down at her bizarre outfit and bite my tongue.

Her eyes flame with the fires of hell. “What’s wrong with my outfit?” she spits out.

“Well, it’s not really you,” David has the balls to say.

“Mm-hm. You look like a teenager trying too hard,” I add, trying not to laugh.

She narrows her eyes, her lips pursed. “You’re lucky I love you, or I’d be kicking your ass all over this sheep field.”

“I don’t doubt it,” I murmur, my gaze blazing into hers. “You love me?”

The looks she gives me lets me know she didn’t mean to say that. Or at least she did, but not right now.

“Mmm,” she murmurs and turns back to that Adam fucker.

“Do you have any insight?”

“Maybe,” he says. “Your man is right about Vinnie being a middleman. I might know where he’s headed, but you’ll have to give me some time.”

She nods and sighs, jutting her thumbs out both ways. “Which way do we go?”

“Back to Manchester,” he states. “Shall we?” He opens the car door for her.

“Yeah, fuck off,” I state and take her arm, leading her back to the SUV, I commandeered.

“Wait,” Ramsey says. “What about…” He indicates the SUV with his head.

“Oh, yeah,” I snort. “There’s a DB in the back.”

“What?” Ruby splutters.

“The driver. I had to get rid of him…” I look over at Layton. “Where’s your guy?”

“Over there somewhere,” he says, pointing back to the motorway. “Which reminds me, we really should get a move on. We caused a bit of a stir.”

“You don’t say,” David mutters.

“Just shove him in that hedge over there,” Ruby says exasperated. “Someone will find him eventually.”

I nod, not really seeing any other option.

“How did you kill him?” David asks, coming over to peer into the back seat.

“I strangled him with the seat belt,” I say and watch as his face goes ashen and Ruby snickers.

“Noice,” she says. “Thinking on your feet. Is your guy still alive?” she asks Layton.

“I shoved him out of a vehicle moving at about a hundred miles an hour,” he replies dryly. “I doubt it.”

“Well, then. That should teach Vinnie not to mess with you,” she says and watches as Ramsey and I haul the dead driver out of the back seat and throw him into the overgrown hedge that runs all along both sides of the lane, much like every country lane in the UK and Ireland. I lean over and make sure he is covered up from passersby.

Ramsey has the nuts to climb into the back seat, leaving the passenger side for Ruby to step into. “You two go with Adam,” she instructs the two without a vehicle. I give them a smug smile as I climb in and then shoot off without another word. The worry over my brother and his current state of mind descends and I hope to all the gods, he doesn’t do something rash that will get him into serious trouble. Right now, this is fixable, but if he goes on a rampage, it will be harder to cover up. Much, much harder because I know that Declan will do whatever it takes to get back to Ruby.

And that scares me.
