“Not if he kills you first. Sending you here, he expected me to do it for him, but he doesn’t know about my plans for you.”

“I’m not fucking property,” I growl.

“Never said you were. Everything I said in the car, I meant. I did not know Vinnie sent you here. But now that I do, let’s fuck with him a little bit, shall we?”

“How?” I snap, arms folded, forgiving Tiff for being an ice-cold bitchbag. No wonder she wanted to get away from Vinnie and came to Adam for help. Only she expected more than just help from him.

“I’m sure if we put our heads together, we can come up with something. But first things first, let’s remove that chip Vinnie put in the back of your neck.” He reaches down and lifts my dress up, grabbing hold of the switchblade and flicking the blade out.

With a sigh, I pick a side and, rightly or wrongly, it’s the side that isn’t trying to take over my city. I lift the wayward tendrils that have fallen loose from my messy bun up and turn around, exposing the back of my neck, placing my trust in the man I just met over my known enemy.

Could things get any dicier right now?
