“Okay,” she says, holding her hands up in defeat. “But please tell me you have someone where you are going who can check you over next week?”

“Covered,” Declan says to my surprise. Although why I’m surprised is a mystery. He is as far underground as I am. He knows people.

“Good,” Michelle says and then stands up. “Call me when you get back.”

I nod and watch as Layton walks her out.

“Can you help me get dressed,” I ask him when he returns a few moments later.

“No, Ruby, you need to rest,” Declan says. “We can push the flight back again.”

“No, we can’t. I need to get out of here. Please?” I can feel the walls closing in again, but this time, I push them back. I’m not falling into that pit of despair again. I refuse.

“Okay,” he says with a grim nod at all the reminders of why we have to get out of dodge A-SAP. “Layton, help her.”

Layton gives him a glare before he helps me to my feet. I wince and hobble to the bathroom where my super sweet giant of a man takes care of me for what I hope will be the final time in this way.
