“More than,” she says darkly. “And no one touches that asshole. He is mine. Are we clear?”
After she has received nods of approval, I say, “We need to clear everyone out first.”
“I can do that!” David shouts out excitedly, making us laugh. “Nothing gets people moving like a fire alarm blaring above an illegal casino. I can clear the entire club upstairs and down in minutes.”
“Won’t that alert the fire brigade, though?” I ask, scrunching up my nose.
He gives me a withering look. “Please,” he scoffs. “Tech guy, remember. I can hack the fucking thing in my sleep.”
“Okay, okay,” I say, holding up my hands. “I guess that will be our cue.”
“You know it,” Ruby says. “Going to get dressed,” she adds, turning on her heel.
“Ah-ah-ah,” Layton says, grabbing her arm tightly. “You need a chaperone, missy.”
I hide my smile at her pissed off expression, but I don’t think she would run now. She knows she doesn’t have to do this alone.
“Ruby,” I call after her.
“Yeah?” she asks, turning back.
“We would burn the world down for you, you know that, right?” I ask.
Her smile turns soft, and her eyes fill with adoration. “I do. And I would do the same for all of you.”
With that, she and Layton disappear down the hallway and I turn to Declan to ask him to instruct me on how to properly fire a gun in case that shit is needed.
I sincerely hope it’s not. This is going to get ugly without the added use of illegal weapons in an illegal gambling site.
So much for staying under the radar, but life with Ruby is a high-octane, high stakes adrenaline rush.
And to be honest, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
