“Jackass,” she mutters. “Shower now, please? My hair is a tangled, wet mess.”
He picks her up and attends to her, and all is forgiven.
I watch them and ruminate on what Declan wants to tell me. I’m certain he isn’t going to end it. He wouldn’t have kissed me so deeply if that was the case. And he wouldn’t make me wait, either. He is straightforward and to the point.
“David?”
I blink as Ruby’s voice interrupts my thoughts. “You okay?”
“Yeah, of course…”
I don’t get to say anything else as my phone rings. I have it on Do Not Disturb with only Favorites being allowed through. Seeing as we are all here, that can only mean one thing.
The Southside gang are calling upon me with their request. I was told to answer their call so I made sure I would hear it when they rang.
I gulp and pull it out of my pants pocket, glancing at the screen.
Caller ID says: SSG
“Shit,” I mutter. “I have to take this,” I add absently and answer it, while rushing out of the bathroom.
“What do you want?” I ask bluntly as I answer the phone.
“We’ve thought about it and there is only one thing that only you can give us,” Vinnie growls.
“And what’s that?” I ask as Ruby and Layton walk back into the bedroom. I turn away to face the window, knowing Ruby’s eyes are on me.
“The Black Widow,” Vinnie replies as my blood runs cold. “We’ll be in touch.”
