I fill him in, and he nods grimly. “I see,” he says.
“And?” Ransey asks. “What do you make of all this?”
“If she wants him, we can’t stop her,” he says, even though his face pretty much looks like he wants to stop her.
“That’s your verdict?” I ask.
He nods. “I knew this was coming. I saw them kiss. It was…” He sighs. “I knew it was coming. I’ve made peace with it.”
“Really?” David asks. “Because you look like you’re about to throw up.”
I stifle my snicker. Always count on David to bring his sunshine to a dark situation.
“I agree,” I say, knowing it is the only thing we can do. “We have to give her our consent to pursue their relationship.”
“I don’t want to,” David sulks.
“You have to,” Declan says. “She won’t be happy if she doesn’t. It’s not for us to decide if she is unhappy for the rest of her life. She needs to try. If it fails, then at least she knows.”
“Yeah,” Ramsey says. “We don’t have a choice.”
“So, it’s decided,” I state and get a murmur of agreement.
“Gotta go,” Declan says and hangs up quickly.
“How long will you leave her in there?” David asks, changing his tune now and figuring she needs a time out.
“Half an hour, tops. If she wants to leave, she knows she can.”
He nods and I turn from them to head into the kitchen. If anytime called for a cup of hot chocolate, now is that time. I have to wrap my head around learning to share her with another man, one who looks exactly like Declan.
Weird doesn’t even cover this situation, but Declan is right.
It’s not up to us to hold her back if she decides she wants Cillian to join us. We have to accept her choices and move on with it.
