Kate picked up the tray. Then asked. ‘If he is like that, how do you know about his body?’

‘He has a swimming pool at his house. Me and Xander have been to a few of his pool parties.’

‘Ah well,’ Kate sighed. ‘I guess I’ll have to keep looking for the man of my dreams.’ She moved towards the door. ‘Talking of dream men, where is our own resident sex on legs?’

‘Got an appointment with his lawyer.’

‘Poor him. I hope it all gets sorted soon. Lawyers can make a hefty dent in the bank account.’

‘About Owen. I’ve something to ask you?’

‘Yes.’

‘Would it be all right with you if he stayed with me tonight and tomorrow? Overnight stops. At Antrim Road.’

‘What!’ Kate screamed with delight and nearly dropped the tray. ‘You’re together – properly?’

‘We are,’ Lexie replied, her heart fluttering.

‘Oh, that’s so lovely. You’re made for each other. I just know you are. How? When? Have you been with him all weekend?’

‘Yes.’

‘A happy ending.’

‘I hope a happy beginning.’

‘It’s pizza tonight. Does Owen like pizza?’

‘I think so. He’s not a fussy eater. Does that mean I can bring him home?’

‘Absolutely, yes. You didn’t need to ask.’

‘Owen insisted.’ Lexie took the tray from Kate. ‘I’ll take this in, if you don’t mind. I want to say hello to Roger.’

After meeting with Martin,Owen dropped back to his flat, picked up a few things, and headed for the office. Belatedly, he’d realised he needed to know what Sally had told George.

‘Knock, knock,’ Owen said, pausing in the open doorway to George’s office.

‘Ah, there you are.’ George shifted in his seat. ‘Come in. Shut the door. Okay, at the dentist?’

‘Yeah, got to go back Thursday to have my wisdom teeth out.’

George winced. ‘Sorry. Still better to have the work done than to leave a problem to fester. Want a coffee?’ He held up the pot, still slightly warm.

Owen shook his head. ‘How was it with Roger?’

‘Great.’ George poured himself a cup of tepid coffee and picked up the last of the biscuits. ‘He’s a fine bloke. We got on. You sure you don’t want a drink?’

‘Yes, I only came back to check what Sally told you. I’m on my way to Kate’s.’

George’s eyebrows lifted, and Owen added, ‘Lex and I are staying there for the next couple of nights.’

‘Lex and you?’ George said, his eyes full of speculation.

‘Yes, Lex and me.’ Owen tried not to smile, but just the thought of her made his lips want to tilt upward. Despite everything that had happened these last few days, he had never smiled so much, never felt so optimistic.
