“Damn straight I would.”
As I sat down, Jacob leaned over to me. “What’s question four?” I couldn’t believe he picked that up. He could tell by the positively horrified look in my eyes that it was something interesting. “Okay, you have your little secrets. I’ll tease it out of you later.”
I sipped my water, trying not to think about having that question answered. Jacob was so sexy, sweet, and really listened. There was no doubt that he was indeed “a champ” in that department. But finding out could mean disaster if things went sideways.
And if I’ve learned anything about men, it’s that as soon as sex was involved, everything goes off the rails. No matter how romantic everything was, I had to hold myself together and not give in to my animal urges. I almost started giggling to myself as I realized I had to start behaving like a rich person – keep a stiff upper lip, and do what was right for the family.
When people finally began to leave, I was inundated with hugs and kisses, promises that I was part of the family now, promises that we’d stay close even though I was now a fancy married lady, and endless dinner invitations.
It was darling, but overwhelming. I was hitting a level of exhaustion that was becoming its own entity. Rayanne and Lauren appeared with my purse and giant hugs.
“Girl, I have to say, you threw a great hootenanny,” Rayanne said quite seriously. “I don’t know how you kept it chill while being so fancy, but the mix was perfect.”
I clasped her hand, squeezing hard. “Thank you. That’s exactly what I was going for, and I’m so relieved that it worked.”
Lauren looked at me carefully. “Mia, sweetie, you’re really tired. You need to get to bed.”
“You think she’ll be sleeping tonight?” Rayanne giggled.
“At least she’ll be off her feet,” Lauren laughed.
I felt familiar arms circle me from behind. “How’s my girl holding up?” Jacob asked them.
“She’s exhausted,” Lauren told him with a pointed glance.
“I’ll take care of her, I promise.” He released me, giving them each a warm hug. “Thank you for your help, ladies. You mean the world to Mia, and I’m really glad she has such great people looking out for her.”
Watching him being so sweet with my friends was so darling that I nearly burst into tears. Wow, I was past tired and getting into a weirdly overemotional territory.
Jacob bundled me into the elevator and had me safely on the top floor in our hotel suite in a flash, where I went into zombie autopilot. I still couldn’t believe that we couldn’t go back to his condo for the night, but apparently the honeymoon suite came with whatever wedding package Jacob’s mother negotiated.
After scrubbing my face, brushing out my hair, and finding the tank top and shorts I packed to sleep in, I crawled into one side of the enormous bed and laid still.
“Well, that was an interesting day,” I said softly, my eyes barely to follow Jacob around the room as he stripped down to his shorts. He brought us both big glasses of water, then got into the far side of the bed.
I’d heard of a king-sized mattress, but this must have been emperor-sized. There was room for at least seven. I was disappointed that there would be no excuse for accidentally cuddling, thinking of that amazing night on top of him on the couch. But I was so wired I likely wouldn’t have been able to control myself.

WEDDING NIGHT
I turned the lights down before stripping to my shorts. Being so close to Mia all day was driving me to the edge. I was nearly twitching with arousal, so I was trying to keep my distance from her. Having an excuse to cuddle her, touch her, reach for her all day long was incredible, and I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to turn it back off immediately.
“You know, I’ve seen movies where the wedding lingerie is all that lace stuff... Looks like a complicated contraption. What you’re wearing here is far sexier.” I tried to sound casual, but seeing how gorgeous she was after all of the glamorous makeup came off was astounding.
I handed her a glass of water. “Anti-champagne hangover program.”
“Thanks.”
She drank half of the glass, then set it down, fluffed her pillow, and snuggled under the sheets. I automatically reached over and tucked her hair behind her ear, giving her a little kiss on the forehead.
“You were fabulous today,” I said softly.
Her eyes were dreamily soft. “Yeah, we were the stars of our show. You were amazing.”
“How drunk are you right now?”
