“Who is we?” John asked rubbing his eyes. He was not going to wake up, this was something he had not told her.
“We are waiting for you.”
“But I thought our parents already left early in the morning.”
“They landed in Dubai thirty minutes ago,” Emma said.
“So then, who is we?” John asked.
“Will you just get the hell up already?” she asked. Her accent was fun to listen to. He did not consider it anything but sexy. It was just fun.
John pulled his covers to his neck and closed his eyes. She would go or stand there, he did not care. He did not have anything to do anyway, and he was still tired from the trip last night.
To think that the trip had been a last minute thing. It was as if his father had not planned anything. Well, he had, he was just a man. He assumed that John could get ready as fast as he did. While this was almost the case, there were still things John needed to do before he left his country and went to a new one.
While he knew before that there was the possibility of his father asking him to move to England with him, he never thought it would come this quick. His father had called him at seven in the evening. There was a jet waiting for John at the airport and he was going to have to come on over.
“What?” John had asked.
“Get ready Son, you are going to England in a few hours,” his father had said before hanging up. He had known that John was going to protest, which he did anyway. John raved and ranted for two hours as he got ready and locked the house up.
Why could they not have told him when the jet was leaving England? He had wondered. What was his father trying to do? There were too many questions to keep him busy throughout the trip He was not happy anyone bit. The driver that picked him up at the airport was too talkative for John’s liking. Then the man had taken him to a place that had gotten John speaking like he had never spoken before.
It was the very same house he had woken into. The truth was, he had no idea what he was walking into. He had seen a little of the woman who was supposed to get married to his father. He could tell that she came from a wealthy background, but he had not anticipated that she would be stupidly rich. The wedding had not even been lavish, it had been simple. She had worn a simple dress with a simple bouquet of flowers in her hands.
They had then held a small reception for a few families and friends before they left. That was the last John had seen of his father and the woman whose name was Grace. He had not gotten the chance to tell find out who she really was. The other time he saw her was a little prior to that when they met in England. She was in a hurry, however, and so was John. It was when he had met Emma for the first time. The truth was despite her attitude, the young woman was smart and beautiful.
They had not talked much, and John had gone back home shortly after. Now the driver had taken her to Emma’s home and John had almost fainted.
“All this is their home?”
“Yes sir, it is your home too,” the driver said with a chuckle before he stepped outside to handle the luggage. John could not believe what he had seen. The house was stupidly huge. From the outside, it looked like a mall. There were lights everywhere and he had been taken inside only to realize that it was bigger inside than it was outside. No wonder Emma felt the right to have such an attitude. Her house could host a small nation in it for crying out loud.
Despite being amazed by how much the woman was worth, and how big the mansion was, John still managed to fall sleepy at midnight. A maid helped him to his room and wished him good night, John had fallen asleep almost immediately from the fatigue. He also understood that his brain needed some time to digest the information it had just received.
Now it was morning and Emma was here, telling him to wake up because they had breakfast waiting for him. He wondered just what was wrong with her. He had no intention of waking up at seven, ever! This woman was plain crazy. And he was getting more and more irritated because she could not leave his room. The worst thing about it was that he could not ask her to leave because e he was an alien. So he closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep
Emma looked at the guy and felt pity for him. She had seen his face when he walked into the house. It was a good thing he had not seen her, otherwise he would have seen her laughing at him. Not that Emma was haughty or anything, she just liked to see people’s reaction to her house. The truth was, Emma was as humble as her mother, but then again she also had attitude issues she knew she could not take care of. They were her, passed down from her father who had died and left them so much money that they wondered what they could do with them at times.
The good thing was that her mother was investing it. A shrewd businesswoman, Grace was making more and more money with the help of John’s father. The man had not been rich in his previous life but he was Hard working and confident. He knew when to invest and when not to. The market was his ally and he knew how to twist it until it did whatever he wanted it to. That was one of the very many reasons Grace had married him. He was smart with business, he knew how to grow money out of nothing.
Why he had not been rich was a matter of bad luck. This Grace had come to learn by herself. She was, however, not really interested in whatever had happened in his previous life. She wanted what was happening at the moment. She knew her daughter would not approve of the marriage, but she was not going to stop because of her. Af
ter all, Emma was all grown up now and did not need to even stay at home. The good thing was that though Emma showed displeasure, she did not try to stop her.
Emma wondered what kind of life a man would live where he did not have to wake up early. It had been a family tradition to wake up at five in her house. The last thing she wanted was someone who would come and break those traditions. One would think that she did not like John. On the contrary, Emma did not hate him. In fact, she thought he was rather cute. What bothered her was his way of doing things. He did not seem to want to follow what the rest of the people in the family were doing.
Also, she felt as if it was her job to make sure that he towed the line. She felt responsible for him because no one wanted him to make a fool of himself. She felt lucky that they did not go to the same college. Otherwise, she would have a hard time explaining to her friends how she had acquired a brother.
“Hey, you, John, you cannot ignore me like that,” Emma said all of a sudden. It also happened at a time when John’s sleep had started to come along. He was getting into another sleep cycle, one he was determined to enjoy. His mind knew she had not left the room, but he did not care. All he wanted was some peace of mind so he could sleep. Now that she had called him, she disrupted some good sleep and shot her a deadly eye.
“What exactly do you want, Emma?” John asked sitting up. He was angry now.
Emma hesitated, but only for a few seconds before she answered, “for you to come and eat breakfast.”
“You do realize that you are nagging me, right?” John asked.
“Are you serious right now?”
