She hadn’t told them yet?
“We found the woman who gave birth on the Christmas morning the babies were switched.” Callum explained about the fire and the woman who’d left that same day with what everyone thought was her baby but must have been their biological brother.
“Her name is Luella. We don’t have a last name yet,” Marlowe said.
“Well, that’s good news, I mean that you have at least a first name. Is she the one who switched Ace with our biological brother?” Asher asked.
“Yes, it is possible,” Callum said.
“What kind of sicko does that?” Asher asked. “We need to catch her and find out, brother. Is he still alive?”
“I want to help,” Grayson said. “What can I do?”
Callum found his brother’s concern odd. He believed that Grayson did like helping people but this was different. “You haven’t even gone to see Dad in the hospital. Why are you so gung-ho now to step up? You don’t even hang out with your family. It’s like putting a house fire out to get you to come to any of these.”
“Somebody switched our oldest brother. That nurse has to pay. We have to get justice for Ace. He may not be our blood brother but he’s still our sibling.”
“Isn’t that the truth,” Ainsley said.
“We can’t stop until we do find this Luella and bring her to justice,” Rafe said from the sofa.
“I just want to know why you care all of a sudden,” Callum said. The fact that he wasn’t close to his brothers and sisters and never went to see their dad in the hospital didn’t support Grayson’s assertions.
“My relationship was always complicated with Dad. I’m sure you’ve had your ups and downs with him. I haven’t resolved anything with him. I’m not sure he’d want to see me.”
“Dad’s in a coma. You should go for yourself, not him.”
Grayson didn’t respond right away. “It’s not that simple, Callum.”
“It can be. Just go see him. Talk to him. He might be in a coma but he can still hear.”
“That’s true,” Marlowe said. “His brain will still hear you.”
“You’d side with Callum anyway,” Grayson said. “You’re his twin.”
Marlowe put her hands up. “I think it would be good for you to go see him. It has nothing to do with agreeing with Cal.”
“Anyway, the real problem here is finding whoever switched Ace,” Grayson said. “I want to find our real brother. He’s out there somewhere and probably has no idea where he really came from.”
“I feel so bad for Ace,” Ainsley said. “Why isn’t he here?”
“He’s laying low for now,” Callum said. “Until we can find out who shot Dad.”
“Yeah, but he’s all alone,” Ainsley said. “And what he must be going through, dealing with the discovery that he isn’t a Colton by blood. Does he think we all consider him an outsider?”
“I don’t think so,” Callum said. “At least, not everyone.”
“Dad?” Marlowe put in. “Kicking him out of Colton Oil?”
“It’s not enough to make Ace try to kill him,” Grayson said.
“I think all of us want to believe that,” Ainsley said.
“Yeah,” Rafe said.
“Of course,” Asher said. He walked into the kitchen, lone wolf that he was.
“Let’s star
