“That depends on if you are. I had a whole cheesy ass speech prepared and everything. I was supposed to propose to you the night of your party, but that got all fucked up, and I want to apologize for that. It still don’t change the fact that I need you to be my wife. I knew you were different the first time we touched on the dance floor. Shit went down with us the way it did for a reason. We both needed to see that without each other, any other relationship isn’t going to work. I wasn’t in one technically, but you were the only one I wanted to take that step with anyway, so a nigga like me had to wait. Now you being my girl isn’t enough anymore. Law Baby, will you marry my ass, please?” Murder asked.

Lawrynn was sitting in the driver’s seat with the door still open. Tears streamed down her face, and then she started giggling out of nowhere.

“I know you’re not laughing at me, man. Come on, Lawrynn, answer my question. You crazy ass girl,” Murder said as he looked at her and mused about how beautiful she was. This wasn’t the first time he had gotten a chance to really look at her, but his heart was damn sure beating hard and fast like it was.

“Yes, Maurice, I’ll marry you,” she answered with a giggle. “It’s hard to believe that I used to be scared of you,” she said, shaking her head at the thought.

“Start the car, man. You were never scared of my ass. You were just scared this dick was gonna turn your life upside down,” Murder told her.

It bothered him that she had even said that to him. This wasn’t the time to discuss it, so he left it alone for now. They were going to discuss it later for damn sure.

“Who shot you?” Lawrynn asked out of nowhere.

“I’m not sure. I think I know, but, I don’t want to say anything until I know for sure,” he told her, only withholding what he felt was necessary.

“I know you know, Maurice. When you feel like you can tell me, I’ll be here to hear it. I don’t ever want to feel like I did that night again. Seeing you with blood all over you made me feel like I was having a heart attack. I love you, Maurice, with all my heart,” she told him.

“You got all of me, babygirl, never forget that. If I hold something from you, it won’t be for long, and there’s always a reason.”

Murder knew that she either had an idea of who shot him or maybe she knew and was just waiting for him to tell her. He would tell her eventually, just not today.

“Did Pain come see you in the hospital or even call?” Lawrynn asked.

“Nah, but I’m gonna hit him up once I get settled.”

“Was he the one?”

“You’re not gonna let it go, are you? No, it wasn’t him,” he said.

He knew that had been the point of her asking about Pain in the first place. She never brought him up anymore, so he knew there was more to it. He remembered bits and pieces of her fussing with Pain, but he was going to discuss that with him and not her.

“I’ll let it go for now. Is anyone coming over today, or is it gonna be just us?” Lawrynn asked him.

“What do you want? It’s all on you. If you want to have a house full of people, I’m with it. If you just want it to be us, then I’m with that too,” he said as he looked out the window.

“I think we should chill with each other for tonight. We just got engaged. Let’s relax and celebrate,” Lawrynn suggested.

“Sounds like you gonna do a lot of riding. You know I can’t pick you up and shit like I usually do. You might have to smack your own ass for a while,” he said and laughed.

“You can’t get nasty just yet. You need to wait a few days before we get into all that,” she told him.

Murder chose to stay quiet instead of going back and forth with her. They pulled into the driveway of the house, and to their surprise, Pain was sitting on the trunk of his car waiting for them to arrive.

“Welcome home, nigga,” Pain said as Murder got out of the car.

Lawrynn slammed her door harder than usual just because she could. Murder gave her a look, letting her know not to start no shit, so she went in the house and slammed the front door.

“She’ll be alright. What’s up with you?” Murder asked. He knew that Pain would eventually come, but this was kind of soon.

“I had to come check you out. I know we’ve got our shit, but I didn’t shoot your ass. I tried to tell Lawrynn that, but she wasn’t hearing my black ass at all. I did see Laura hauling ass from the club, though,” Pain said.

Pain wondered if Murder was gonna tell him that she was the one who shot him. During the time that Murder was in the hospital, Pain had gone over that night numerous times.

Murder looked around before responding to Pain’s hidden question.

“Yeah, she better still be running. I just need to find out what the hell was in her head. It doesn’t make sense to shoot me, especially if you not gonna kill me. She has to know I’m coming for her,” Murder revealed.

“Does Lawrynn know?” Pain asked.
