The mood was just….right.
Kiss me, she said in her mind to the man who’d saved her life a few days ago.
And he drew nearer to her, just like a scene out a romance movie, right there under the moonlit night sky. She could hear the trickle of the water from the river nearby. The scent of his sexy cologne lifted to her nostrils as he neared her. She could hear the heavy beat of her own heart pounding away in her chest.
“You’re very beautiful, you know that?” Chad murmured in a husky voice as he stroked her chin with his finger, then he lowered his head to hers. Shivers of delight danced down Abbi’s spine.
“Thank you.” Abbi was breathless, gazing into his luscious ocean-blue eyes that seemed to sparkle under the moonlight darkness.
Before long, his finger slid down to her chin and he pulled her closer to him then gently brushed his soft lips over hers and butterflies danced in her belly.
“Hmm,” she moaned into his lips. Chad’s other hand slid down her back and he held her so snug and close to his own body. She thought she was going to die from sensation overload.
Abbi felt her nipples tighten underneath her silky bra. This time, it had nothing to do with the cool mountain air. Her arousal caught her by surprise. She had never been so turned on like that by a man in her life. Not with her ex, or any man, for that matter.
His lips felt warm and silky over hers as he tenderly caressed her lips with his own. He slid his tongue over her bottom lip then inside her mouth seducing her erotically. Abbi had never been kissed like that before. Warmth slid through her body. She didn’t know where she was at that moment. She’d forgotten that she was even at work—sort of. She really thought she was in another world with Chad as he pressed his lips lovingly over hers in a sensuous tongue make-out session. All sorts of erotic emotions spiraled through Abbi’s body as the silky feel of his lips warmed hers passionately.
He pulled his lips away from hers and gazed into her eyes; she was dazed, breathless, feeling the heat of his passion from that kiss.
Chad was an amazing kisser. Really amazing. The way he beautifully captured her lips with his was incredible. Her body still tingled with ecstasy. She loved the way he just made her feel. Yes, it was as if they’d really connected, magically.
There was a cosmic pull between them that just could not have been stopped.
“Are you okay?” he queried gently, sensing her disbelief over what transpired between them. What did come over them just now? Was it the moon? The stars? Or that chemical reaction that sparked between them? The joining of their lips and their souls in a romantic embrace of affection.
Abbi trembled with desire for this gorgeous man. She could not believe the chemistry that exploded between them. She’d never in her life felt this way with any man, ever!
“Yes….um…I’m okay.” Abbi’s chest heaved, her lips tingled following the soft touch of his lips on hers.
“You sure?”
“Yes…Oh, my God!”
“What is it?” he said.
“I…I can’t believe we did that… It’s gotta be the lunar effect.”
“The lunar effect?” he repeated, arching his brow.
“You know.”
“Yes, I know what it means. Are you saying that you believe the full moon made you kiss me?” An amused grin curled Chad’s soft lips.
“Yes. I’m saying just that. I…I would never kiss a stranger…” Even saying this, the space between her legs pulsed hard and fast. She was falling for him, wasn’t she?
“You can hardly say I’m a stranger now, can you?”
She gushed. “No, you’re certainly not a stranger. You’re right, we’ve been working together less than a week. It’s crazy, but…I…” Abbi heaved a sigh.
“It’s okay. There must be something about the full moon tonight. You’re right. Because I don’t ever kiss a woman I’d only just met like that…” He was about to say on a first date, but they weren’t exactly on a first date now, were they?
“Come on,” he said gently. “Let’s go inside, before we both really do something crazy and out of character for the both of us.”
“You’re right,” Abbi murmured, her heart still fluttering in her chest.
Chase finally walked her over to her guest cottage on the other side of the lodge before returning to his own.
Later, when he arrived back at his own cottage he stripped off his work clothes and placed them in the hamper and got into the shower stall of the bathroom en suite. Tonight, he was going to have to take a long, cold shower.
What the hell got into him?
Was it really a lunar effect?
Why in God’s name did he press his lips to hers? And man, were her lips delicious. Chase wanted to taste much more than her sweet lips.
Yeah, it was crazy out of character for him to kiss a woman he’d met only a few days ago. That just wasn’t his style.
But she tasted sweet. So good. And there was that chemistry that just stirred his insides and made his mind ricochet in all directions. Why was she having that effect on him?
Must be the lunar effect, she’d mentioned about. There’s always that belief that there’s some sort of correlation between specific stages of the Earth’s lunar cycle and behavior in animals, including humans, that can’t easily be explained. Well, Chase sure as hell couldn’t explain himself right now. And Abbi felt the same way. He knew she wasn’t a fast girl. She sure didn’t seem the type.
All he could think about was Abbi in one of those sexy maid outfits with a duster in her hand, ready to sweep and sprinkle her magic all over him and him sweeping her off her feet, literally. He had a vision of hugging her close to him then undoing her layers of clothes, wanting to get her out of her maid uniform. There was something about a sexy maid that really turned him on. But it wasn’t all physical. The girl was deep. He really took a liking to her. But right now, Chase had to focus and take his cold shower.
And hopefully, wash any naughty thoughts he’d been having of this pretty hotel maid out of his head—and the remembrance of the sweet taste of her lips. If he didn’t do that fast, this undercover gig at the ranch resort was going to be in one heck of a lot of trouble.
Chapter 6
The next day, Abbi pushed her maid cart on the pathway to another guest cottage, number forty-three, near to the river. She felt as if she was on top of the world.
Yesterday, she’d finished her three day orientation and went through a thorough session with Jen and she felt ready to begin her contract on her own. She’d also taken detailed notes about the state of the rooms she’d cleaned with Jen.
But that wasn’t the subject on her mind that was making her feel dizzy with excitement. It was her dreamy night stargazing with Chad. And that kiss!
She’d never been kissed before like that. She just couldn’t get over the silky feel of Chad’s lips over hers. The way he kissed her passionately under the moonlit night sky. It wasn’t just the way his lips moved over hers so sensuously or the way he caressed her tongue with his. She was still feeling hot inside just thinking about it. Abbi was up late last night staring at the ceiling, thinking about it. Thinking about Chad. Their magical moment. Hoping it could happen again. Both terrified and thrilled at the same time. She was sworn off men for now but, oh, Chad was a hot attraction. Too powerful to deny.
Abbi couldn’t believe the chemistry that sparked between them. The chemicals in her brain were definitely working overtime last night because she couldn’t sleep a wink. Her mind kept visualizing the gorgeous handyman Chad Rivers with his muscular arms, his tall stature and broad shoulders. And his sweet lips over hers. God, she imagined what he would be like in bed. Would he slide his tongue over more areas than her lips? Was he that type of guy…? By that little sneak preview Abbi could tell he was probably very hot in bed. Sizzling. He’d probably scorch the sheets with his love-making abilities if it was anything like the way he did that bewitching maneuver with his tongue with her last night.
If Abbi was being honest with herself, she’d fallen for this Mr. Hot Maintenance Guy. She was deeply attracted to him and wanted to get to know him better, but unfortunately, her personal life was a bit of a mess right now.
Abbi kept thinking about Chad’s sexy lips, his smooth, rich deep voice, his handsome face with chiseled cheekbones and those strong muscular arms of his, especially his naked arms displayed when he took off his jacket to keep her warm last night. There was something about a man with strong, toned arms that warmed her body.
Chad resonated with Abbi’s soul—period. That guy was a genuine sweetheart. When Abbi first bumped into him, literally, he’d seemed all macho and everything but he was a real charmer and so insightful and engaging.
She just couldn’t get over how much they’d shared in common. Abbi really enjoyed talking with him last night. They actually shared the same interests in the constellations and astrology. Talk about the stars aligning in her favor. Her belly tickled with delight thinking about him. There was just something about Chad that was so…breathtaking. He was so different from her ex, or any other guy she’d dated, not that she’d dated many to begin with. Chad seemed like an honest, down-to-earth hardworking guy. Her kind of man.
