He hit the golf ball with a club, and it landed in a hole.

“I’m good,” Finn said, immediately regretting not making it convincing.

“Listen, we’ve played many times before, and every time I see you, you ask about Steph and pick my brain about the financial feasibility of that mall you’re wanting to build, but not once today have you asked about either. Talk to me, tell me what’s bothering you.”

Finn held the tip of his golf club and took deep breathes.

“Am I that easy to ready?”

“Not usually.”

Finn sighed.

“I don’t even know where to start.”

“From the beginning. What is eating you up, dude?’

“My wife…”

“Wife?” He could see the shock on the other man’s face. Finn had never told him about his marital woes.

“Yes, my wife. I’m a married man.” Finn took the next 20 minutes to tell his friend all about him and Kalilah. He didn’t leave any details out. By the time he was done he could see that his friend was stunned. “…and now she is back seeking an annulment.”

Gabe burst into laughter; tears were streaming down his face. He pulled out a brown handkerchief and wiped his face, and Finn was trying to figure out what part of his misery was funny.

“Is my life a huge joke to you?” Finn was beginning to get annoyed.

“No,” Gabe said, still trying to contain his laughter, it came anyway. “It… it is just so funny. Your wife abandons you for five years, meets a new man, comes back to town and the first thing she asks for is an annulment?”

Finn gave no response. He knew how messed up the situation was without having someone narrate it to him.

“Wow! That is some deep shit. I am so sorry for you. I can only imagine how she must feel…”

“You are supposed to be on my side here,” Finn said.

“I am on your side. I can only imagine how you must feel too, especially with regard what you told me. Have you told her your part of the story?”

Finn picked up a golf ball.

“I have tried to talk to her, but you know how it is. She doesn’t want to listen; she still feels I am a user,” Finn said as Gabe listened keenly. Finn hit the golf ball, and it landed in a hole. “We had a date…”

“You had a date?” Gabe asked

“Yes, I’m trying to win her over.”

“I am lost, dude.”

“I refused to give her the annulment, and I told her that I would do that on one condition.”

“What is the condition?”

He told Justin his conditions and he could see amusement and shock on his friend’s face.

“And she agreed?”

“Yes, very quickly too. She’s determined to get these dates over with so she could resume the life she started in the States,” Finn added bitterly.

Gabe looked at his friend and shook his head in pity.
