“Whose the bitch now?”

The trigger is pulled more than once. I lose count and it sounds like someone is beating a carpet instead of pumping bullets into someone’s chest.

Adrenaline flows through me as I come out of the bedroom.

This place fucking stinks and I want fresh air like I wanted a normal childhood.

I have no idea how long I’ve been missing.

I have no idea if Niki has been looking for me.

What I do know is I want to pee in my own toilet and I want to shower for like a year. Instead of immediately leaving, I take a long piss in the bathroom by the front door and then I look for Carla’s cellphone.

No cellphone, no evidence.

They’re just missing people.

I find it on the nightstand in the bedroom. I call the cleaners that I used the last time, when I shot Anthony Dias. Now his fucking brother is going to join him in hell as alligator bait or some shit.

“Hello?” Alejandro is on duty tonight, he’s always so chipper for a guy cleaning up murders.

“It’s me,” I say.

“….what do you need?”

“Two,” I say. “And this is the address. The entire place needs to be wiped. And check around quietly in the backyard.”

“For?”

“A child.”

“Will do,” Alejandro replies quietly.

My voice shakes just a bit as I rattle off the information. Mateo has a pack of cigarettes by his bed, and I stare at his corpse as I light up.

“You don’t mind do you?”

My finger brushes over the silver on the light and light and heat flare forth. I put the cig to my lips and pull on it until smoke is curling in the air.

“Damn man, you did all that just to get fucked up in the end. I almost feel sorry for you, you piece of shit.”

I chuckle and pull on the cigarette some more.

It’s time for me to exit this place stage left. Checking in the closet and drawers I find a hoodie. The hoody is pure black, no designs, and enough to conceal that I’ve been through hell. I step out into the waiting dawn.

Fresh air greets me, and I hit the empty streets.

I make it to a payphone that is surprisingly in order and I dial Silver’s number.

“Bitch!” she exclaims when she hears my voice. “Where are you?”

Relief floods through me as I look around for a sign of my location. “Come get me, please.”

“Of course,” she says softly. “Everyone is so worried.”

“Everyone?”

“Yes, everyone. I’m at your…girl this place is a mansion. I’m here with your family now.”
