Plopping down on the couch in the living room that’s not too far away, I agree.

“What would you like?”

“I have this strong urge for whatever you want to make. I love when you cook for me.”

That gets Niki’s attention and he comes over. He leans down and hovers over me, our lips nearly touching.

“I could eat you out again,” he says. “That would fill me up. You could be my dinner tonight.”

I lick my lips, as he breathes out my wet lips feel it. “But I’d still be hungry. It’s always been about me right.”

A chuckle rumbles out of him.

God this man is fucking sexy, slowly my brain forms that thought.

“True, Kitten.”

He lays a kiss on my head.

“I’ll bring the bags in, and head out. Call me if you need anything.”

His footsteps fall away and after a while its super quiet. The back of the house that overlooks the beach beckons me and I step out on the porch. It’s the winter season, so it’s still kind of cool out. Leaning against the railings of the porch, I notice the wood looks a little worn.

Very few people are out on the beach, and I stand there for maybe fifteen minutes before I see even five. My phone begins to vibrate from the back pocket of the jeans I’m wearing.

Part of me fears its Khrystina calling.

I left things unresolved but I’m going to fix it.

The name on the screen makes my mouth run dry.

“Hello.”

“Long time no hear from you,” Carla’s voice makes my stomach twirl like butterflies have taken up residence.

“The idea was we wouldn’t call each other. That this was to stay safe.”

She laughs and it sounds like maybe she’s been drinking.

“Is everything okay?”

“I heard you got married,” Carla chooses to dismiss the question, and I let her.

“And who told you that?”

“The question is, why didn’t you tell me?”

Taking a deep breath, I think of ways I could spin it.

Fuck it, I think.

“It just kind of happened.”

She laughs again, but it’s that kind of laugh when you know someone’s about to go the fuck off. Carla’s at some sort of tipping point.

“You kill my child’s father. Then you turn around and get married. And I’m just the fuck out here hiding.”

A deep breath blooms and I take a seat on the patio furniture. Suddenly, I wish Khrystina had been calling.
