Chapter One
Sergi reached for hisphone, to call his pilot and spoke Russian to him, then he angrily ended the call.“He’s going to check over the plane and figure out who and what they did this.”He looked over at Hondo.“I’m afraid we’re stuck here until the plane is fit to travel in.”
Hondo shrugged.“Si, I understand. And we have the rooms for sure.Might not be the vacation you wanted but you’re welcome to stay with us.”
Just then, Sergi’s phone pinged again with another message. He scowled as he read it, then he looked up at Hondo.“Seems we have more trouble following us.”
“What do you mean?”Hondo asked and gazed around the room. His family looked confused as well.
“It seems the Grimm brothers had another branch we missed, as they were silent partners to the MC.My security team uncovered this when they looked into a series of Bratva businesses that have been having trouble recently. Then one of our own was contacted by a friend of hers and was told just who and why these gang members were attacking our operations.”
“Who is this new group we didn’t know about before?”Walter asked.
“Diablo’s Hounds,” Sergi spat out.“My people are looking into them even as we speak but they are running into trouble finding them.”
Walter’s hands turned into fists at his side.“They’re in the Brooklyn area.”
Sergi snapped his gaze over to Walter.“You know this group?”
Walter nodded.“I was watching them before we left.I could tell they were up to no good but I couldn’t figure out just what they were doing. That group is run by Carlos Mendoza and he has two lieutenants, Jose Gonzales and Oleg Morgan. And that group is meaner than a barrel full of snakes and stupid, incredibly stupid.”
“What do you mean by stupid?”Hondo asked his son.
Walter snorted.“They acted like they couldn’t be touched and they lived rich.Like they had protection and no lawman could touch them. They treated everyone like they were so far above them and people long remember such heavy disrespect.”
Sergi studied him before he asked, “Can you let my men know where these thugs hang out?Maybe we can put them down before they make more trouble for the city.”
Walter nodded.“I would be happy too.New York City is a good place to live but they really need to clean up the streets and make them safe again. It’s been getting worse for a few years now.”
Sergi nodded.“Da, we must protect those who cannot protect themselves.”Then he thought of something.“Did you ever interact with them at some point?”
Walter nodded.“Si, I did.I was leaving a parking lot after a meeting one day but then I saw this guy Carlos at the corner of the street.A young kid was simply walking down the street when Carlos began yelling at him for crossing into his territory. The kid didn’t know what he was talking about, he told him that he was just on his way home from school.I didn’t want to step in because it wasn’t my business. But I couldn’t let that kid die just for walking home.I told Carlos to pick on someone his own size and then we were fighting.I beat Carlos down to the ground and left him laying there broken and bleeding.”He shrugged and said, “I heard a few days later that they were looking for me but they didn’t even know who I was.I’d been in that meeting but never returned to that lot.But the streets were tense for a long time after that. Those pricks never found me by the way.”
Sergi just shook his head then he swore in Russian. He reached for his phone again and when the call was picked up he relayed the information he had just learned to his team. Then heeded the call.
“We are prepared for something like this,” Hondo assured him.“We have cameras set up surrounding this place and we have backup from the Rogues as you already know. You will be safe here until you figure out your transportation.”
Sergi nodded.“My men are here as well.”He looked over at Misha and Felix.
Sinclair paused then she mentally made a connection, “New twist, if Sean was connected to the Grimm Brothers he might just be connected to this group as well.Don’t you think?”
Hondo glanced at Sergi then back to her.“You could be onto something, chica.I mean given what we already know, like he sent that dirty cop after you and the Grimm Brothers.Mistook Bethany for you, on his orders, he probably wouldn’t hesitate to send this group here as well.Of course, we don’t have any proof of this connection but we know he sent the Grimm Brothers to find you.Only they grabbed your friend instead and that cost them big time.”He glanced at Walter and said, “But then he’s sending in the second team to find you. That is his second strike now, isn’t it?”
Sinclair shook her head.“He’s had so many strikes against me I’ve lost count. All those accidents.”She shook her head and slowly went over to the table to sit down. She looked at Hondo with tears in her eyes.“All my life he made me feel as if he didn’t want me in his house. He and my mother turned their backs on me long before I left.I was ignored but never abused, but you know something, neglect is its own form of abuse, isn’t it?His housekeeper was more of a mother to me than the woman who actually gave me life.Isn’t that sad?My own mother couldn’t stand the sight of me and now I know why, I reminded her of the man she left behind in search of her own glory and gold. Then after he made sure she was dead, he came after me.The only thing he didn’t count on was me surviving. All the while he was commanding an MC to make his dirty money with. He’s a lowdown criminal hiding behind a veil of reliability. But when you strip off the suits he wears, he’s nothing but a damn drug lord and an all around prick. He really needs to be stopped.Jail won’t make a damn difference to him.He needs to be stopped completely. In such a way that he can’t come back from it.”
Zed shook his head and told her gently, “Baby, feeling like this isn’t good for you.”
Sinclair looked at him as tears shimmered in her eyes.“You have no idea what that man has done, not only to my mother and me but to everyone he’s ever met. He’s a vile man, pure evil, hidden behind a cloak or respectability.Every single day of my life he looked through me, not at me.I wasn’t his daughter...I was nothing.Maybe he knew I wasn’t his child but I also wasn’t a son that he could show off.A son would have been his crowning glory, a son he could have trained to take over his business one day, but a daughter?Even if he thought I was his, he wouldn’t have treated me better. But every day he would walk past me like I wasn’t even there.”She scoffed.“And my mother wasn’t any better. As soon as she had me she left me in the custody of the housekeeper. That’s who took care of me, who showed me maternal love.My mother was too busy with her social calendar to even notice I was growing up.I ate my meals in the kitchen rather than the dining room. Most nights they were out at one social event or another. She never tucked me at night, or even made me take a bath or dress nicely. She treated me like a ghost in the house. And now he’s trying his best to kill me for insurance money.”She released a cold laugh.“I mean more to him dead than I ever did when I was living with him.”
Zed hurried over to her, wrapped his arms around her and whispered, “You are safe now sweetness.I will never let him hurt you again, either physically or emotionally. You belong to me now and I will show you love.”
Sergi shook his head then looked at Misha and Felix. He knew there were layers to Sean’s madness and they were just beginning to realize that Sean was the only one that knew the real story here.Sergi thought that he might just be the real mastermind behind this whole thing. He reached for his phone again and sent another message to his team in New York City.
