Searching her eyes, I grin. “Shit, sorry.”
She laughs and my eyes focus on her mouth, again. Shaking my head, I clear the thoughts of kissing her.
“I said, are we going to do this or what?”
Running my hand through my hair, I grin. Right. I need to fucking focus. “Hell yes.”
Scanning the bar, like I’ve done countless times, I can feel Eva’s body close to mine. Trying not to focus on that, I finally spot the chick. “Ten o’clock, brunette,” I say, keeping my eye trained on the chick. Eva’s loud laugh is the only reason I look away. “No way is she crazy too?”
Resting her hand on my knee, she shakes her head. “No, she’s not crazy.” I grin and she laughs again. “But..”
“Oh come on, what now?”
“They’re a couple.”
Glancing back, I watch them. How could she possibly know that? “No way. Why would you say that?”
“I say that because that’s my friend,” say says, laughing as she squeezes my knee. “Come on, let’s go say hi.”
Screw it. I follow her over to the table and as soon as the chick spots her, she jumps up and they hug. Kinda hot. They start talking a mile a minute and I look over at the guy. Damn, now that I know it, I notice he is watching her exactly the way Asher watches Payton.
“Hey man, I’m Brett,” I say, sticking my hand out to him.
He stands, and shakes my hand. “Hey, Shawn.”
“Oh shit sorry. Brett, this is my friend Jana, and you just met Shawn,” Eva introduces.
“Hey nice to meet you,” I say to Jana.
“You too. You guys need to sit and hang out. Let us buy you a drink.”
Not one to turn down a free drink, Eva and I sit down. After talking for a while, I can tell a few things. This couple is pretty cool, and that guy is into his girl. He hasn’t stopped touching her since we sat down. Not sexually, or at least not that I can see. He keeps touching her arm, her hand, moving the hair off her neck. Yet, he’s keeping up with the conversation like it’s completely natural.
“Aren’t they nice?” Eva asks, when they go to get another round.
“Yeah, they are.”
“They're technically step brother and sister,” she says with a smile.
“No shit.”
“It's a funny story, but they never even knew until he barged into town while she was watching her parents house last year.”
“That's crazy, but they seem happy now.”
Her smile slips away and she searches my eyes. “Oh shit. I’m the worst wingman ever. This isn’t the night you wanted.”
Smiling, I wrap my arm around her shoulders. “Nah, it’s better.”
