“Seems we’re neighbours.” She laughs, and I watch as Anaïs face drops.

“Great.” I force a smile onto my lips. “Got to go girls… meeting,” I say before unlocking my door and walking in.

What are the chances?

I normally go for one of the suites here but decided against it. Thought I would keep more under wraps if I stayed in a basic hotel room.

Well, I say that. It’s still a pretty big room but nothing on the suites.

Royce’s words replay over in my head. He was going to ask for her back. Would she say yes? Would she say no? Would she say yes just to spite me?

My head aches, my temples throb, and the back of my neck feels constantly stiff.

Rubbing my hand around the base, I give it a gentle squeeze then tilt my head side to side as it clicks and groan at the relief I felt.

Sitting down at my desk again, I reach for a bottle of water then wait for my meeting to commence.

Honestly, I’m over today already.

Chapter Twenty

Anaïs

My phone is buzzingbut I am so lost in my work it takes me a moment to realise. Glancing over, I see Royce’s name flashing and I roll my eyes. After the stunt he pulled the at the beginning of the week, I really don’t want to talk to him.

He’s so self-entitled, as if he’s too big to do bits for social media. I get it, it’s not everyone’s bag, but the team have always done it. It keeps the drivers looking human, showing their fans that they do have a softer side sometimes and want to have fun like the rest of us. Of course, we know they have fun. That’s what their breaks are for. Yes, they need to have their head in the game when they’re driving over two hundred miles per hour around a tight track, but when they’re off, I just want them to let their hair down a bit.

“You not going to get that?” Nora asks as she walks from the shower, the steam following her as she grips onto the top of her towel.

“Not right now, no.” I shake my head as I work through emails.

“Fair.” She shrugs as she pulls at her suitcase, looking for something to wear. “I’ve got a press meeting with Royce in aboutan hour, then I’ll be free. What are your plans?” she asks me as she drags out her uniform.

“Probably rot here for a while. I have no plans,” I admit, pulling my eyes from the screen for just a moment and staring at her. “Why?”

“Thought we could hang for a while.” She smiles as she paces back into the bathroom to get dressed.

“Yeah, sounds good, I need to see if Royce will do this thing for me. Kai is on board, but he seems reluctant, and I’ll be honest, it’s pissing me off.” My voice is a little louder and she laughs from across the room.

“I’ll speak to him.”

“Wouldn’t waste your breath.” I roll my eyes and get back to work.

“Never know, I might be able to work my magic.” Her voice grows louder as she steps back into the main room.

“Mm, maybe.”

She finishes getting ready then gives me a kiss on the cheek before slipping out and closing the door behind her.

Once I know she’s gone, I slump back in my chair and tilt my head back, looking at the ceiling. My mind flicks back to seeing Creed this afternoon and I hate that he always looks hot. No one should always look that good. The pull is there, dragging me towards him but I have to put the distance between us. I can’t keep falling for it. He lures me into his presence and then just when I am at the edge, teetering on the verge, he snatches any lifeline away from me, shoving me into a darkness.

I hate it.

Hate it even more that I keep letting him do it.

I was never a doormat, and I don’t plan on becoming one now.

Slowly bringing my head forward, my skin tingles when my thoughts drift back to the bathroom. The way he was pressed upagainst me, my upper body lowered forward over the bathroom counter, his cock hard. It would have been so easy to give in. His fingers had traced my thigh, teasing under the hem of my skirt. The urge to wrap my arm around his neck and let him do unspeakable things to me knowing that anyone could walk in at any minute had my skin pricking in goosebumps and a heat flaming inside of me.
