“When do I get to meet the infamous Rue?” Nora gives me a look, and I roll my eyes.
“Tonight, at dinner.” I give a firm nod. “You’re going to get on with her real well.” I give her a toothy grin.
“I think I will too.” She grabs her bag and moves towards the door. “This place is…”
“I know.” I sigh. “I don’t think I want to leave.”
“I get that,” she admits as I open the front door and let her out before me, and once she is in the hallway, I close the door behind me and lock up.
Greeting Alexandré as we walk past, we start to walk towards the sea.
“What a beautiful place,” Nora admits, eyeing everything we pass.
“It is something, right?”
“Certainly,” she chirps as we walk up to the street before Rue’s shop.
“Come here a minute.” I link my arm through hers and drag her down the narrow-cobbled alley.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Just wait.” I hush her as we walk into the shop, the small bell chiming above us and Rue pop’s her head around the doorframe.
“Rue”—I drag Nora in front of me—“this is Nora. Nora”—I look at my oldest friend—“this is Rue.” I beam and let them suss each other out before Rue pulls Nora in for a hug.
“It is so nice to meet you. I’ve heard such wonderful things about you.” Rue beams, her hands pressed against Nora’s back
“Right back at you.” Nora’s voice is a little higher and I laugh. They break away and Nora steps back beside me.
“Just thought I would get the introductions and any awkwardness out the way before dinner tonight,” I admit, smiling at both of them and I can tell they feel uncomfortable.
“Yeah,” Rue agrees, placing her hands on her hips.
“Makes sense.” Nora nods then smiles at Rue.
“Where are you both off to now?” she asks as she steps behind her desk.
“Going for some lunch, then we’ll have a mooch. Thought I would show Nora Monaco before we go back to the penthouse for a couple of hours.”
“Sounds like an amazing day,” Rue says softly, dragging a stool out and taking a seat.
“Yeah.” I smile at my two friends.
“Why don’t you join us?” Nora asks Rue and she blinks a couple of times, then looks at me, then back to Nora.
“We’re going for dinner tonight. Honestly, you two have a catch up and I will just meet you later,” she mutters softly.
“Are you sure?” Nora asks.
“Yeah, I have to do stock take, and I would rather get it out the way now and hopefully close early. It’s been quiet today,” she admits and Nora nods.
“Okay.” She looks over her shoulder at me and my lips twitch.
“Eight for dinner?” I ask Rue and she gives me the thumbs up.
“Perfect, we will see you tonight.” I walk towards the door and Nora is close to me.
“See you later, Rue. It was nice to meet you,” Nora’s voice drifts over to Rue.
