“It was something—you’re amazing.”

“Speaking of amazing, don’t you think we should talk about that kiss?” he asked out of the blue.

I almost spit out my wine at the abrupt topic change, fumbling for the right words. “What is there to say? It happened.”

Cooper was quiet for a moment, looking thoughtful. “It was an impulsive moment, but not one I regret. I care about you. As more than a friend. These past two weeks getting to know you have been special. I want to spend more time with you, get to know you even better.”

His openness and sincerity made my stomach flutter. “I feel the same way. I wasn’t sure if bringing it up would be weird, or if I should just let it go.”

Cooper reached for my hand again. “I want to be honest about how I feel.”

I entwined my fingers with his, marveling at how perfectly our hands fit together. “Me, too, although I can’t help wondering where this is all going.”

He thought about it, nodding. “I’m hopeful, but I was thinking the same thing.”

The sudden click-clack from the library made us both jump.

Cooper’s brow furrowed. “Did you hear that?”

“Yup . . .” I reluctantly withdrew my hand from his comforting grasp and jumped to my feet. “Let’s go!”

We quickly made our way down the hall to the library, then entered and stopped right in front of the typewriter.

We both glanced down at the piece of paper.

Don’t sweat the details. Just do it.

“What does this one mean?” Cooper asked.

I shrugged. “Other than the Nike slogan? It sounds like the answer to somebody’s problem or doubts.”

Cooper’s eyes went wide. “Huh . . .”

“What?” I asked.

“Before we heard the typewriter, what were we talking about?”

“We were talking about us,” I said. “And where our relationship is going.”

“Exactly,” Cooper said, gesturing to the typewriter.

I glanced down at the piece of paper again.

Don’t sweat the details. Just do it.

“Wait,” I said. “Are you saying that this was the answer to our question?”

“It sure seems like it,” he said.

“That’s kind of farfetched, don’t you think?” I asked.

“I agree.” Cooper chuckled. “But I’m sticking with it.”

COOPER

I had planned on this being a romantic night alone with Melody, but it had taken a detour with another message.
