That sly grin . . .

Every woman in the world knew what that look meant.

He had way more than my restoration skills on his mind.

That was one-hundred percent pure attraction.

Cooper Galloway was interested in me!

I nervously sipped more of my Bahama Mama, nearly choking.

So smooth. Calm down.

Unfortunately, I didn’t take my advice and set my drink glass right on the edge of my plate, and watched as it toppled over with a loud clunk.

“Whoopsies!” I yelped, sopping up the spill with a wad of napkins.

In my frenzy to clean up, I hadn’t noticed Cooper inching closer. His hand grazed my boobs as he reached over to help, making me squawk like a startled parrot. I jerked backwards, nearly tumbling off my chair before Cooper steadied me.

“You all right there, butterfingers?” he asked with a wink, rubbing my back, just inches from my face. “What is going on with you?”

“Nothing! I’m t-totally fine!” I stammered. “Just peachy.” I flashed him a double thumbs up and an awkwardly toothy grin.

What was wrong with me?

It all started with that stupid hug.

His touch did things to me.

And I knew for a fact he enjoyed it just as much.

Cooper flagged down the server to help clean up the spill as his leg pressed against mine under the table.

Was he doing this on purpose?

Trying to tease me?

The server brought me another Bahama Mama I didn’t ask for, and I surely didn’t need.

“Anyway,” I said, looking to change the subject after grabbing my drink glass securely with two hands. “I enjoy working at Cooper and Chad’s place. There’s no doubt about it.”

“What are you going to do with the house when the restoration is complete?” James asked.

“Hmmm—thatis an excellent question,” Cooper said. “Chad wants to sell it, but I’m not so sure I can let it go. Maybe I’ll buy him out. I don’t know. We’ll see. I have a lot of memories in that house. I love the progress I’m seeing so far. Melody knows her stuff.” He glanced over and grinned.

James leaned in with interest. “And that doesn’t get tricky, mixing business with pleasure?”

Huh? Where had that question come from?

“Pardon me?” I said, off to the chug races with my Bahama Mama again. “I’m not sure what you mean.”

“You know, you and Cooper.” James smiled and leaned back, glancing between us. “How long have you two been an item? You make a cute couple, by the way.”

I nearly choked on my drink again. “An item? What gave you that idea?”

Cooper chuckled, leaned closer, and put his arm around me. “Relax, Melody. No need to be shy around him. Our little secret is out, and now we can plan that Paris honeymoon in the spring that you’ve always wanted.”

I squirmed out of Cooper’s grip and laughed nervously. “Behave.” I glanced across the table at James, who seemed to enjoy what was going on. “He’s joking.”
