The door slammed shut behind us.
So much for apologizing for calling his book garbage.
Something told me I had made things worse by nailing his ego.
Chip and Dale turned and stared at me.
What are they looking at?
Oh, that’s right . . .
I was still wearing the motorcycle helmet.
Pulling the helmet off, I placed it on the table in the hallway, then we headed toward the garage.
We didn’t get far before the doorbell rang.
Romeo barked like a mad dog from inside of the library.
Chad swung open the door and grinned. “Hey, gorgeous.”
A captivating woman stood there with glamorous blonde curls, an hourglass figure, a radiant smile, and a huge engagement ring on her finger. Her satin dress showed off her voluptuous curves and tiny waist, and she had a beauty mark on the left side of her face, just above her lip.
She was the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe.
I did a double-take because I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Was she a celebrity impersonator or perhaps an actress filming a biopic? Maybe she was a devoted fan paying homage to the iconic figure. Or perhaps she had a job delivering singing telegrams like Marilyn Monroe. If so, she probably made a fortune, even if she couldn’t carry a tune.
Romeo continued to bark from the library.
The woman stepped inside the house and laid a big one on Chad. “Hey, sexy. You didn’t answer my text messages.”
“Sorry—my battery died,” he said.
Chad wrapped his arm around her shoulder. “Hey, everyone. This is my fiancée, Marilyn.”
Okay, now things were really getting interesting.
A Marilyn Monroe lookalike who was named Marilyn?
This day was getting better by the minute!
After introductions were made, she turned to Chad and pulled him aside. “I was texting you because I got an audition!”
“That is outstanding!” he said, kissing her again. “You’re going to crush it. You just wait.”
Now it made sense. She was an actress.
Although the same-name-thing was on the quirky side.
The library door opened, and Cooper stepped out into the hallway. “What is going on out here?”
Romeo sprinted to Marilyn and licked her.
“Hey, Coop,” she said. “How are you?”
“Hey—I’m good,” Cooper said, walking past me to give her a hug. “I’m in the middle of an important scene and there’s a lot of noise out here.”
“Sorry—we’ll try to keep it down. Good to see you,” Marilyn said.
