Damian.
He’d never gone to his room.
The jerk had followed Zoe to the lake.
Savannah’s warning rushed back to my mind in an instant.
I’m pretty sure Damian is plotting revenge against you.
I think it has something to do with Zoe.
What was Damian's game, and how did Zoe fit into it? I knew it wasn’t innocent, nor was it in Zoe’s best interest to listen to anything “Diabolical Damian” had to say to her.
The sight of them together made my stomach churn.
I couldn't just stand around and wait for something bad to happen. I needed to take action before it was too late.
ChapterEleven
ZOE
I stared at the lake, even though I really wasn’t seeing it. I was too much in my head after the conversation I’d just had with Damian.
The man gave me the heebie-jeebies.
Then there was the photo he had shown me of Lucas and Savannah.
Damian’s obvious intentions to cause trouble irritated me, but my thoughts kept going back to that photo, making me feel confused and conflicted.
The doctor said it wasn’t good for me to have too much excitement. I definitely needed to figure out a way to relax. Maybe I could try that silly technique that Lucas used.
I pressed my index fingers to my thumbs, closed my eyes, and took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Then I did it again. And again.
I opened my eyes and blinked.
“I can’t believe it worked,” I mumbled to myself, feeling a little more relaxed until a familiar voice interrupted me.
“I saw you with Damian from our window and came right down,” Lucas said from behind me. “Are you okay? Where’d he squirm off to?”
“Over there,” I said, gesturing down the shoreline. “And I’m fine. I appreciate you looking out for me, but I can handle him.”
“Believe me, I know, but there’s no harm in checking up on you.” Lucas came around the bench and sat next to me. “Honestly, it irked me when I saw you with him.”
I smirked. “So, you were jealous.”
“Oh, yeah . . .sooooojealous.” Lucas chuckled.
We watched a flock of geese fly by and disappear in the distance.
“You would never go for a man like that,” he said confidently. “He’s not your type.”
“Funny, but he said the same thing about you. He said I was too good for you.”
Lucas craned his head toward me. “What did you say to that?”
I shrugged. “I said you may not be the most handsome man in the world, and you may not have the most intelligence, but your countless flaws help distract me from the truth.” I tried to keep a straight face but ended up laughing.
He shook his head in amusement. “You’re being ridiculous.”
