“Lucas, you gotta try the BBQ chicken,” Hank said, nudging me with his elbow. “The chicken is perfectly seasoned, and the meat is always tender and moist. It’s our number one choice every year. Do I sound like a reviewer?”

“You sold me,” Rolando said.

“Ha!” Hank said. “That’s what I’m talkin’ about.”

While Hank and Harmony took off to try Zoe’s baked potatoes, we ended up trying the BBQ truck he raved about. Luckily, he was right, it was definitely another five-star culinary experience. I took a few notes for the review and also reminded myself to mention that this festival completely changed my mind about food trucks. It really blew away my expectations.

Just then, my phone buzzed with a text.

Zoe:Can you come back over here? Something happened.

“Crap,” I said, wiping my mouth, then jumping to my feet. “Zoe has a problem. We need to get back over there.”

“Let’s go!” Rolando said.

The three of us practically sprinted back over to Potato Heaven, which wasn’t easy, considering the size of my food baby.

When we got there, I got the shock of my life.

Zoe had no customers.

Not one.

“Oh no—this can’t be good,” Rolando said, his forehead creasing. “Calvin must have shut her down again.”

If this was connected to Damian or Lazlo, I was going to blow a gasket.

Zoe came out of the food truck, looking dejected.

“What happened?” I asked, feeling absolutely horrible for her.

“I don’t know how, but . . .” She shrugged, then a smile formed on her face. “I completely ran out of potatoes!” Then she busted up laughing.

“That is wonderful,” Savannah said, hugging her.

Rolando gave her a hug as well. “You rock, Zoe. I’m so happy for you.”

I took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly.

Peace. Serenity. Love.

Then I let her have it. “You scared the crap out of me!”

“I’m sorry,” she said, still laughing, which eventually relaxed my shoulders enough to get me to smile.

I shook my head in amusement. “You’re crazy.” I finally gave her a hug. “Congratulations.”

“Thank you,” she said. “Oh—and one other thing. The investors said yes.”

“Yes! Yes! Yes!” I said, picking her up and spinning her around in my arms before setting her back down. “That is the greatest news.”

“I’m over the moon,” she said. “Now, there’s just one thing left to do.”

“What’s that?” I asked.

“We need to celebrate,” Zoe said.

I grinned. “I was just thinking the same thing.”
