Me:If you say so.

Rolando:You’re going to get a TV deal.

Me:He’s keeping to himself. Doesn’t talk.

Rolando:Doesn’t matter. Rock star!

Rolando:Let’s chat in the morning. Tell Zoe I said hello.

Me:I will. She’s in the bathroom at the moment.

Rolando:Slipping into something more comfortable?

Me:No comment. Chat tomorrow.

Rolando:Please don’t leave me this way!

I chuckled and set down the phone on the nightstand, then picked up my Kindle to finally read for a little bit.

Ten minutes later, I heard the bathroom door open, and set my Kindle back down on the nightstand. I pushed myself up on my elbows and peered over the wall of pillows to get a peek.

Zoe was quiet and avoided eye contact with me as she walked to her dresser and put some clothes inside the drawer. She was wearing a simple, cute, baby-blue, two-piece pajama set. The bottoms were shorts, just like mine.

Her skin looked flawlessly smooth, with just a hint of a rosy glow on her cheeks. The tiny freckles on the bridge of her nose only added to her charm and gave her a touch of playful innocence. You’d never know she’d just suffered a concussion and was stressed out about crashing her food truck. Or that she was sharing a room with a man she hated.

The scent of her freshly washed face wafted in the air in my direction and filled my nostrils with something subtle, something floral, but pleasing. She exuded a sense of effortless grace and beauty that was captivating as she turned and walked toward the bed.

She was even more beautiful than before, more angelic.

Until she opened her mouth . . .

“Move it or lose it,” Zoe insisted. “You’re on my side of the bed.”

“Why is this your side?” I asked.

“I always sleep on the right side.”

“Why didn’t you mention that when you were spewing out your rules?”

Zoe huffed. “I just thought of it. Just now. The right side has always felt more comfortable to me, so I always choose it. I guess it’s a weird habit, but it works for me. I don’t sleep as well on the other side, for some odd reason.”

I nodded, thinking about it, then slid out of bed. “That’s all you had to say. See? A little communication goes a long way.” I walked around to the other side of the bed and chuckled when she glanced at my chest again. “I saw that.”

“Get over yourself,” Zoe said, passing me, then fluffing up the pillow before getting into bed.

I was about to get into the other side of the bed, but then stopped and looked over the pillow wall. “You know, it’s okay if you’re attracted to me. It’s perfectly natural.”

“Are we seriously still talking about this?” she asked.

“Why not? I think you are an attractive woman, but the difference is, I don’t have a problem telling you.”

Zoe studied me intently, but didn’t speak.

I left it at that and slid into my side of the bed, pulling the covers up just past my abs. A few seconds later, I pushed myself up on my elbows and glanced back over in her direction.

“What are you doing? Quit gawking at me!” Zoe said, pulling the covers up to her chin.

I gestured to her nightstand. “Can you pass me my Kindle?”
