Now was not the time.

Amber pointed to my phone. “I don’t mind if you need to get that.”

I waved it off. “I can call him back when we’re done here.” Dean’s face disappeared from the screen. “See? It wasn’t that important. Now, where was I?”

Amber smiled again. “You were about to make my day.”

I grinned. “Right. You’re not going to believe this, but—”

My phone lit up again. This time it was a text from Dean.

“You’re being a pain in the butt,” I mumbled, leaning over to read his text.

Dean:I’m stuck in the refrigerator. Come get me out. I’m cold.

Not again.

The timing was unbelievable.

“Unfortunately, I have to run.” I jumped to my feet and slipped the phone in my pocket.

Luckily, I was within walking distance of my business and could get there in two minutes if I cut through the back alley.

“Oh, that’s too bad . . .” Amber frowned, which made leaving even harder. “Is everything okay?”

“Nothing that I can’t fix,” I said, dropping some cash on the table. “I really enjoyed your company, Amber. I don’t want to leave, but I have to.”

“I totally understand.” Amber gifted me with a happy look. “This was so much fun. We really need to do this again.”

Her words gave me something much stronger than the tequila.

A shot of pure adrenaline.

We really need to do this again.

The butterflies were coming back strong.

Amazingly, so was my confidence.

“What about tomorrow night?” I boldly asked.

Please say yes. Please say yes. Please say yes.

Amber hesitated. “Tomorrow night?”

I tried to keep my composure as my pulse pounded in my neck. “Why not?”

She thought about it, a smile slowly forming on her face. “Okay. Let’s do it.”

“Great,” I said, attempting to contain my excitement. “We can talk in the morning to iron out the details when you come in for coffee.”

“It’s a date,” Amber said.

How much did I love when she said that?

More than she would ever know.

“Oh,” I said, holding up a finger. “And tomorrow night we can discuss howSupermanisn’t a romance after all. I’ve changed my mind on the topic.”
