“Save it,” I said.

He sighed. “Okay, maybe I saw a little this time, but I already forgot. Let me prove it.” He flicked the side of his head with his finger. “See? Nothing at all but air.”

I couldn’t stop myself from laughing. “You’re ridiculous, you know that?”

Rocco laughed. “Believe me, I know.” He stood and held out his hand. “Let’s get you up off the floor.”

I allowed him to pull me to my feet, before I immediately plopped myself down on the couch with the pillow on my lap. I got two more pillows and tried to cover any skin that was exposed.

Rocco laughed. “Seriously? We’re two consenting adults here.”

“That’s debatable,” I said.

“You’ve seen me in my swimsuit,” he said.

Why did he have to put that in my head?

“There’s no difference between your underwear and a bikini bottom,” Rocco added. “You wouldn’t cover yourself up at the beach if you saw me, would you?”

Maybe.

Okay, I could be a tad bit self-conscious around Rocco, since he was, in fact, the sexiest man alive. He has been associated with some of the most beautiful women in the world, actresses, super models, singers, you name it.

I’m just your average girl.

Then again, I seemed to be overanalyzing things because there was no way he would look at me that way if he weren’t interested.

“Are you going to tell me why you woke me up so early?” I asked, deciding to change the subject.

“I’m heading to New York,” Rocco said.

That caught me by surprise.

He had told me there was a chance he’d have to reshoot some movie scenes, but I had completely forgotten about it. Or maybe I had been trying to block that from my mind because of the possibility of me having to sleep in his bed.

“My flight leaves in two hours, so that’s why I had to drop off Houdini early,” Rocco added. “Sorry for not giving you any notice. I found out late last night and wanted to tell you, but your lights were already out.”

“Don’t you think you are cutting it a little close if your flight leaves in two hours?” I asked.

“Private jet. It leaves when I get there,” he said matter of factly. “Per our agreement, I need you to sleep in the main house with Houdini until I get back, and yes, in my bed.”

I swallowed hard. “Okay . . .”

Rocco studied me. “You’re not going to put up a fight this time?”

I covered my mouth and yawned. “I’m too tired to argue.”

He smirked. “Remind me to only pick fights with you in the morning.”

I smirked right back. “Remind me to only answer the door in the afternoon.”

Rocco laughed.

“Can I go back to bed now?” I asked.

“Yes, you may. I just wanted to let you know that Gwen has the day off and Marcello may not be around either. You’ll have the entire place to yourself. Well, except for a few workers who will be installing new motion detectors and cameras at the bottom of the driveway.”

“Beefing up the security?” I asked.
